How do you tell your coworker that the lawnmower he sold you for $50 is a piece of shit

Well, you could simply say,

"Hey, I used that lawnmower this weekend and it's not working, what do you suggest?"

And they can either say, "Oh let me help you fix it/take it to goodwill/give you your money back/or oh that's too bad" that way it's on them and you said your piece.

Actually, I decided that I have enough money in my account from back home to buy Jason a brand new mower. Our anniversary is next weekend, so we can call it an anniversary gift.
And I can call this a lesson learned.
