Car Washes

Jul 09, 2005 18:05

Something that bothers me immensely are “organizations” that do everything to make you feel sorry for them because of there stupid “problems.” In particular, I am talking about those car washes school sports teams put on because they “need” something. What the hell, I am driving down Cirby and some cheerleader/softball girls are waving signs all ( Read more... )

Righ on =D I agree with you whole heartedly.

And perhaps the biggest problem is that most of these people never stop to think about it, and don't really understand poverty because the only poverty they've seen is the bums in LA or New York. Then all of a sudden it is "justified" because these people put themselves there, supposedly. My mom has this one friend who will NOT believe there is no such thing as poverty, but an elaborate scheme dreamt up by "bleeding heart" liberals to spend more tax money aiding oversea countries.

Another reason, although not the primary reason, why I went vegetarian. XD

I remember one time I wanted to join the peace corps so bad, but then the only reason I never left was because of my dog. XD I don't want to leave him. But your message is inspiring, and reminds me of those moments I had.

Nice to see we have the same wavelength ;D

It's good to know that there are people like you around. The world is such a mess and it hurts so much to know things can CHANGE DRASTICALLY but people constantly ignore what's going on around the world- especially in third world countries with wars, massacres, starvation, etc... It's so sad to know how little people have around the world but how happy they are, even though they don't have clean water, food, clothes, they lost their families, etc.... and it sucks so much to see all the greedy people in this world who have things but aren't satisfied with them so they spend uncessessary money getting what they want... I don't know.. some people don't care, they just think and care about themselves. They see death as statistics, over 8 million people including children die a year from starvation and illness.. yet they could have been alive with only 8- cents a day...
I give money to over 15 worldwide charities that helps people and animals in third world countries. I just wish more people would do the same.

Ya, like you said, it's not even that expensive to support someone who needs our help. A cup of coffee, a trip to the mall, a bag of candy..anything you can substitute would do them a world of good!

Wow that is crazy XD Money to get into a shelter? But I guess I'm not suprised. Afterall I still thinking having to pay to adopt a homeless child is ludicrous XD

I'm sorry, but I love my parents and I don't help those starving families. Contradictions exist, and just because they don't help out some poor starving girl in Swahili doesn't mean they automatically fall under the category of sterotypical angsty teen ( ... )

It is thinking like that which causes all the ads on tv for the foundations.

The real problem that prevents the countries from getting support is that most politicians are arrogant bastards who would rather have money in their pocket, than in another country, doing some actual good, same goes for asshole celebrities like Bono. They preach about helping the world and the hungry when all they do is enough to make it seem like they care, enough to get them publicity to make them more money for themselves, and if they gave some of that to the needy, it would be cool, but they don't. The only thing the people in power care about is money and publicity. When the tsunami happened, they were donating money to look good, and so people wouldn't think of them as evil, but the people think nothing of it when they don't do enough to help starving people.

I guess it isn't the US's fault though, as they really have so many problems in their own country to focus on helping others
