A Miracle Baby Chapter 4

It was getting close to Lij's due date. Soon he would be a father. He was so excited and so was Dom. But some days Dom was more worried than excited because he wondered if there would be complications to the pregnancy and if Lij would have trouble giving birth.
They went to the doctor often. The doctor was very kind and reassured Dom that it would be all right. Lij would have to have a Caesarian section but they did not think it would cause any trouble.
When they were coming home from the doctor's office, Dom said to Lij, "I really hope you will be okay, Lij. I don't know how I would live if something happened to you or to little Angel."
They had decided they would name their beautiful boy Angel, because he would be angelic like Lij. At first Lij didn't like the name but Dom was able to convince him, so now it was decided. They also decided that instead of a middle name, he would have Lij's last name. Angel Wood Monaghan. Dom smiled every time he thought about it. He was so proud.
"Nothing will happen," Lij said. "The doctor said so."
"I know that, Lij, but I am still worried. I love you so much and I don't know what I would ever do without you," Dom said.
Lij blushed and looked down at his round stomach. He still couldn't believe there was really a baby growing in there. How was it possible? Even the doctors didn't know. He thought it must be a miracle of their love.
The days passed. It got harder and harder for Lij to move around. His belly was so big and he always felt tired. Most of the time he just stayed in the house and watched TV or read books about babies. He wanted to be the best father ever, so he read book after book so that he would know exactly what to do when the baby came.
Sometimes Hannah came over to visit and sometimes his mom came, too. Hannah was also excited about the baby but she teased Lij a lot, too.
One day he was at home with Hannah and Dom was busy at work. He was reading another baby book and Hannah was fixing lunch for him.
"What do you want to eat?" Hannah asked from the kitchen.
"I don't know. Um...do we have any macaroni and cheese?" Lij asked.
"Let me see," she said. Hannah looked in the cupboard, but there was no macaroni and cheese. "No, you don't have any. Should I go to the store?"
Hannah didn't really want to leave Lij alone. He was very close to his due date and she didn't want to leave even just for a few minutes to go quickly to the store. She was afraid something might happen and no one would be with him.
Thankfully Lij said that he didn't need macaroni and cheese. "What else do we have?" he asked.
Hannah looked around in the kitchen. "Well, there is some madeira cake, but that's not really a healthy lunch. You should eat something better than that."
"No, that's what I want!" Lij said.
"Oh, all right," Hannah said. She loved her brother so much, it was hard to say no to him. Especially now that he was going to have a baby soon. Hannah was very excited about being an aunt.
She brought out some madeira cake on a plate and a glass of milk. "Here you go," she said. She sat down on the couch next to him.
"Aren't you going to have any?" Lij asked.
"No, I'm not really hungry," Hannah said.
"Oh, okay then. So you don't mind if I eat it all?" Lij grinned and started eating the cake. Ever since that day it was his favorite. He knew it was silly, but he felt very nostalgic about that day because it was when he first realized he was pregnant. So now they had madeira cake in the house all the time and he ate it a lot. Dom teased him sometimes that he would get fat from eating it, but Lij said he had to eat twice as much for the baby. He knew Dom wasn't teasing to be mean, so he didn't mind it.
He was drinking his milk when suddenly he had a pain in his stomach. "Oh Hannah! I think I'm going to have the baby!" he cried.
"What?" Hannah was worried. She didn't know what to do.
"Call 911," Lij said as he clutched his stomach.
"Oh right," Hannah said. She ran over to the phone and dialed 911. "Help, I need an ambulance!"
They waited for the ambulance to come and then drove to the hospital. When they were on their way to the hospital, Hannah used her cell phone to call Dom.
"Dom, Lij is having the baby! You need to come to the hospital now!" Hannah said.
"What? Don't worry, Hannah. I'll be there soon," Dom said. Even though he was busy filming a movie, he told the director that his life partner was having a baby and he had to leave immediately.
The director said of course Dom could leave. Becoming a father was much more important than making a movie.
So Dom left the movie set immediately and drove as fast as he could to the hospital to see Lij. He hoped he would get there before the baby was born.
