Why I don’t think “Inspirational Equality” is good for the SCA

I think that's the idea I want to get across the most. Not that it should be one way or the other. But that the way it is currently isn't unequal or necessarily anti-gay.

Not in the SCA, but I feel you on the conflicted nature of how this could all go down.

On the other hand, I tend to believe that any system that has been around as long as the SCA can adapt and change to deal with the issues that could potentially arise from this situation. And when it comes to asshats who would abuse the system, peer pressure is a real bitch; it's one thing to sit around and snark about how to mess with everyone you know by intentionally messing around with the change in rules - it's another thing to do it (and suffer the ramifications of your friends thinking you're a jerk).

Of course, everyone's mileage may vary on this.

I agree totally. We had this discussion when we started our medieval society and decided to go for one man and one woman and no-one gives a damn about who or which sex they sleep with. For exactly those reasons.

its unfortunate that its not possible to have a real discussion with either side without it going into pro-gay vs anti-gay. when really, its not about that at all, or at least it shouldnt be in my mind.
