I was planning to take next week off. I was hoping to use that vacation to start learning how to drive. Yes, I know, what the hell am I doing not knowing how to drive. Well, it's just one of those things I missed out on in high school because of weirdness with moving over to this country into my Junior year. I certainly could have learned since

I wanted to provide links right on a sidebar somewhere, but couldn't figure out how to do that from LiveJournal with my free account. Maybe if I paid for it, but...

Any chance HR will approve cash for the excess leave since you canned the vacation due to work? I've been with some companies that will do this...
What weeks are you in Germany?
What city will you be in/near?
We are less then 28 days left on this contract (in Kuwait), and still nothing in writing as to renewal or termination. I have some leads for work in Iraq, and two possible interviews in the US (1 Texas with a live anyplace @ 100% travel, and 1 in Scottsdale down the street from my old job). Just waiting to see what comes :).

I should be in Germany from (roughly) 9/30 through 10/7. I say roughly because it's not 100% final yet, but very probably either those dates or 1 or 2 days before or after. I'll be in Monchengladbach (a small town somewhat near Dusseldorf).
Good luck on the rest of the contract. I'm glad it's not a 4 year contract. It's too bad you can't find work someplace in, oh, say, Massachusetts. ;)

But since they're requiring you to not use your vacation, they should either make an exception allowing you to carry over ALL of your time, or pay you for the lost time. If they don't, I'd seriously recommend that you speak to a lawyer - BushCo have gutted labor laws pretty severely, but there might still be some option. If anything, it seems like it might be a violation of your employment contract.
I assume you're "exempt" like me, right?
About the choking: did you actually vomit in your sleep? Or was it more psychological? It could be stress-related. In either case you definitely should see your doctor about it.
Hey, I've been having fun with LiveJournal so far. Thanks!
