I admit, when skimming NARUTO in stores, I had only seen the Monster-of-the-Week aspect.

I love the idea of hope despite darkness. I may just have to start picking this up!

Thank you for putting into lovely words the magic of this series. It's not terribly deep, and it's not terribly inventive - but for all the times I'm about to be bored to tears by the "filler arcs," they always manage to bring things back around and show you why the gutsiest ninja has something special.

Also, Shikamaru! His power is his freaking IQ, and he can go toe-to-toe with an Akatsuki based on it. This is unbelievably badass.
