That is terribly similar to my cuban black recipe. Mine also includes basil, thyme, and cayenne pepper.

Did you soak the beans before you crock potted them? I do. Either overnight, or quick soak (boil for five minutes).

They're great topped with salsa with a bit of vinegar and olive oil.

Other ways I like to eat the beans:

On tacos.
With migas.
Blend in food processor, make into nacho dip.

The third is particularly nice because it freezes perfectly. And because I really love nachos.
