Her most recent diary, How long can I afford to live?, was selected as one of eleven (out of several hundred posted today) considered sufficiently noteworthy to be recognized on the front page

I was going to add a comment, but there's a 24-hour waiting period for new accounts.

The only reason I can survive longer than a month is that I've already lost almost everything - all savings went when I was first unable to work, then the apartment; only through the kindness and heroic efforts of friends was I able to keep my books and my piano in storage, for the 4 years I was homeless, and then in the SRO. I'm still rather surprised that I survived, but any hope I had of things improving is gone, and I acquired a couple of additional chronic conditions from shelter living (the most dangerous being the chronic bronchitis).
