A poorly-executed jump during one of my adrenalin-seeking off-piste missions on the Annupuri side of Niseko saw my back clunk into a painful disjoint that saw me quit the slopes early and stay parked in the hotel for the rest of the holiday. Do you know about Franz Mesmer? Pretty interesting bloke, probably more in terms of understanding psycho-somatic relationships than anything else, and also almost certainly a quack, but may be worth having a read about. Then again I'm probably biased cos I think medicine and madness in late 18th century Europe is pretty interesting - I remember flicking through Jan Goldstein's book on "The Post-Revolutionary Self" a few years back and thinking it was pretty cool. That reminds me I really should read that properly.
