Ok, so Elvis pointed out to me (about TWO days ago... whoops...) that it was St Dwynwen's Day, which is basically the Welsh equivalent of Valentine's Day. I did not know this. In fact, not many Welsh people do. It's more of a folksy holiday, one that very traditional Welsh speakers or people living in the more 'Welsh' areas would likely know about

Do you actually speak Welsh? (Is it a prerequisite for living there?) I am ignorant!!

Pah! God no! I know a few phrases here and there but I am useless with Welsh. It's not a prerequisite but it was at risk of dying out a little while ago so they reintroduced it as an obligatory subject into all Welsh schools, plus there's now an increase in schools which teach in Welsh which are now cropping up. It really has brought the language back. I'm not really a fan of it, and it's kind of only spoken in Wales and small areas of South America, but hey, language is part of a country's culture and identity, so I can't really wish for its disappearance, no matter how ridiculous I feel it sounds or looks. XD
