No prob. That video was hilarious by the way. He kept contradicting himself and just dug himself a bigger and bigger hole as it went on. Blahblah grr liberals! Blahblahblah rhetoric that will appeal to everyone! Blahblahblah anti-responsibility! Boo being happy! BOO!
No, he was from Pennsylvania. Rabidly anti-gay, anti-sex, anti-abortion. I don't know if you're familiar with the sex advice column Savage Love, but the author, Dan Savage, had a little contest to re-define his name as a sex act. It's worked pretty well. Google 'Santorum' and see for yourself.
What gets me about this speech is that in Political Science and Philosophy classes I've had, liberty is specifically defined as 'the ability to do whatever one wants, so long as no one else is harmed by it'. So yes, Santorum is anti-liberty, AND anti-pursuit-of-happiness. Very pro-life though.
Oh okay. I didn't agree with the whole anti-liberty thing, but what I did agree with is that one should enjoy their liberty within reason. We do need to be responsible for our actions and look out for the common good of others, just like being in a family (his example, I know). Maybe he is contradicting himself. I don't know. The thing is, it seems like people are so selfish. They just go along doing whatever they want without a care in the world and pretty soon someone gets hurt. It's responsibility, the "so long as no one else is harmed by it" part of liberty that seems to be missing. I think that was the point he was trying to get across and that is the part I agree with.
