So I just watched Beowulf. The shiny, new, computer-animated, Neil Gaiman-written Beowulf. I read a few expectation-lowering reviews, so I was pleasantly surprised. It stays true to the plot of the poem in some very big ways, and integrates some normally out-there stuff that your less literary-minded screenwriter would have just ignored. ( ( Read more... )

Yeah, I could have delt with it untill the end. THE END!!!! GARRRR!! You just can't...GAH!!! Like 3 min of *glare* *seduce* *glare* *seduce* *glare a bit less* *seduce* GAHHH!!!!
That and Beowulf's descent into frat boy thug kinda made me angry.
"I am Beowulf, i have come to kill your Grendel?"
And HE IS THE KILLER OF MONSTERS!!! Not the sexer of them. GAHH!!!!

The end was pretty damned lame, all things considered. I tell you, this is the same kind of twist that Gaiman put on Snow White in Snow, Glass, Apples. The problem is that Neil's genius lies in the short story. He punches you in the gut. It's awesome. I feel like Beowulf stretched out the punch a little bit too much.
