That was an awesome race. Big Brown won by at least 5 lengths!!!!!!! I do believe we have a very good chance that he will sweep the Belmont also! If he does that, he will be the first triple crown winner since Affirmed in 1978!!!

triple crown, horse racing. preakness

If you like mysteries, you should certainly check out an author I'm sure you will love: Dick Francis. He wrote quite a lot of books, after a successful career as a jockey for the Queen of England, and his books ALWAYS involve horses in some way or another ... but in entirely varied ways. At least one of two of his books bring up racing in the United States ... your post reminded me. He's really, really good ... I recommend any and all.

Thanks, I'll have to check those out. I read all the Walter Farley books growing up because I was in love with horses. Forget boy bands (with the exception of NKOTB[who should have stayed retired, ug]),my walls were plastered with posters of horses and I had all the barbie horses and tons of other model horses. I wanted to be either a jockey or a horse vet when I was growing up. I even memorized the anatomy, physiology, ancestory, and history of the horse. Not that that info does me any good now. *rolls eyes* Got to heavy and tall to be a jockey (suppose to be 110 lbs or less and shorter than 5'5, me being 200+ and 5'7 kinda leaves me out unless you want me to ride a draft horse *cracks up at thought, esp. since I'm afraid of heights*. I could just see myself riding a Budweiser Clyde to victory *snort, snort**wipes away tears*) *sigh* I digress. By the way I accidentally exaggerated the margin of Brown's victory. He won by 5&1/2 lengths but that is 1 length more than his victory over Eight Belles in the derby. He's gonna be hard to ( ... )

I rode horses in some way or another from 3 to 12, but haven't much since. Trust me, seriously, you will LOVE his books and they can be found in most libraries and used book stores ... I'm actually thrilled to introduce you to them because I am so totally confident you will thoroughly enjoy them; they are all as different as they are alike. *smiles* I don't follow races, but your enthusiasm makes me feel as if I should check out a race. We used to get invited to an annual Derby Party but we were always otherwise engaged, if I recall correctly. We went one year ... very boring to be honest, but I was watching a little boy not the race, so what would I have known?
