So I got Married then…

Two weeks ago yesterday I got married

The day before had been dingy and wet. In fact several days before had been. This wasn’t dampening my enthusiasm or my excitement about it - and besides it would mostly be indoors.

But Saturday 23rd November dawned bright and shining and clear with blue skies and just the odd fluffy cloud.

We had breakfast and then headed to my Bridesmaid, Josie’s room.
I won’t bore you with the details, suffice it to say I got ready. Josie did my hair, Mum left to make sure the boys got there ok earlier than me and Josie and I finished getting dressed and made up. It was all a bit of a dream really!
So as is usual for me I was ready an hour early so was ready in plenty of time to have a small blackberry whisky provided by my wonderful father and then head down to the lobby.

Mum had ordered a proper car with ribbons for me as a surprise. Also an additional amazing surprise was meeting the last few guests (most of whom I haven’t seen for a year) who hadn’t left for the Venue yet, causing excitement to be raised!

Then Dad, Josie and I headed up from the Hotel to Fort Amherst in our lovely shiny car. I continued to squeak gently every time we passed someone I knew on the road. (many of them walked from the Hotel to the Fort)

I arrived a good 15 minutes before I needed to - which was fine - I hate being late, so sat with the registrars and chatted till it was time.

There were nerves. I won’t lie. But The Fort looked SO amazing and so beautiful, the tunnels (dug by Cornish miners incidentally, as Dad discovered in his many chats to the volunteers) filled with tea lights, lighting my route into the depths of the fort and to the waiting congregation.

I held Dad’s arm tightly as we waited but as the music, so carefully chosen, started and the calming and beautiful strains of Concerning Hobbits started, my nerves settled, I smiled and we started down through all the wonderful and amazing friends to my future husband.

The Ceremony was relaxed and beautiful and caused laughter (when Roland promised me Patience in such a patient voice) and the odd teary eye. Mum wrote a wonderful piece which she has put up on her LJ and read out for us.

I then became Mrs Charlotte Dorothea Zosseder.

Then we had some photos and then the toasts and speeches (I’m not sure I know of any other wedding where a call of “Time Freeze” was used to quiet the guests) which went superbly (including a draw when drinking from the Nuremburg Wedding Cup http://www.german-toasting-glasses.com/bridal_cups/nuernberg_bridal_cup_story.html and then we headed outside for more photos and general mingling and fun.

When we finally finished photos and all the guests were assembled in the Grand Magazine, Nicola, the wedding planner for the Fort, Asked if we would like to be announced. We said why not but on our entrance our friends made such a cheer it wasn’t necessary - I love our friends!

We had food (hog roast) and wine and then our friends went off on a ghost tour around the tunnels put on for free by the volunteers there

We then cut our cake (cheese) with Sting (a surprise from Roland) and had our First Dance to Only The Music by Heather Alexander.

The party carried on much later than we did and we hope everyone had an excellent time - we certainly did!

The next day we had breakfast with everyone, said our goodbyes and picked everything up from the Fort, before spending a gentle afternoon in the hotel opening presents and reading cards.

I also have the most amazing and wonderful husband!

Thank you to everyone who travelled from far and wide to see us. Thank you for all your generous and lovely and thoughtful gifts. Mum and Dad took the gifts home for us (rather than leave them in the car in Airport Parking for 9 days) so we will be sending out thank-you cards at Christmas when we pick them up.
