Chasing the Rainbow

Mary Morstan’s early life was lonely and drab. Her mother died when she was an infant, and her father spent most of his life stationed in India. During her formative years, Mary attended Stonyhurst Boarding School which seemed to exist only in shades of grey, from the stiff woolen uniforms and perpetually overcast skies, to the dour, unfriendly ( Read more... )

Just dropped by to read again and say hi! And say again how happy I am that you're writing again. Reading this yesterday put me in the mood for more of your fic, so I read FQF last night, which I love more every time I read it.

This is really a great piece. I hope now that you're inspired again that you muse pelts you with so many ideas that you can't help but write continuously!

Thanks for stopping by, T! Your encouragement means a lot and I hope to recharge the ol' Muse before too long. It does feel like a new era of Holmes fic these days and I'm not yet sure where I'm going to take things. It is extremely gratifying to know that folks come by and read while the wheels of my imagination try to crank out something new.

Ooh, complex. I've read a few fics in the vein of "mary as a beard" or "Mary complicit in Holmes and Watson's affair," but I've never read one that considered their motivation in such depth. I feel bad for Watson, thinking that he's at fault for his own emotions that Mary tried to reveal to him.
And I do like the idea that Mary didn't die, but just went to live on the continent. (Maybe she went to France and had wild sexy adventures?)

Oh, I'm sure she found plenty of smokin' gay men to keep her happy in France. And something tells me that Holmes will figure it out for the both of them once she takes her leave and he and his Prince can live in happiness and peace.

Thanks for reading. Love your avatar!

I usually avoid fic like the plague but I'm so glad I gave this a shot, because it is amazing!

Loved your unique take on the Holmes/Watson, Mary/Watson question. I think I shall make this my canon instead of ignoring her existence like I normally do...lol.

In this story Mary could certainly be any of us slashy fangirls who indulge regularly in reading our favourite OTP slash fics.I like that parallel very much. It's just too bad that she realises too late that Watson feels like he's betraying Holmes and not her.

Wonderful story!! Thanks for sharing :)

Others have already commented enough on the hotness. I wanted to say how interesting it was to have Mary find her own happiness through theirs instead of being shuffled off as an inconvenient impediment. I also really liked the consistent use of color imagery throughout.
