Mother always made it clear that she was unhappy that I shared my natal day with the anniversary of the Muggle Caesar's death. Although I do see her point, it has never ceased to amaze me that she knew who he was. Both she and father always made it a point to avoid familiarity with Muggles, but I suppose that there are some Muggles so important ( Read more... )

There are some - rather poorly researched, much to my annoyance - theories that Caesar surrounded himself with wizards - of course, they weren't called that at the time, obviously. That could easily explain why he is a well-known name, even in more strictly traditional families.

If take any of the Greek or Roman myths seriously, the magically capable and incapable lived much more integrated lives. It is quite the pity that the legends are regarded as little more than stories for children now.

It wouldn't surprise me terribly, after all, his family claims to have been descended from Aphrodite, and his mother used a Seer to determine the most auspicious date for his birth. It would not be unreasonable to conclude that this Seer was nothing more than a witch who knew some Divination--and was actually legitimate, given that she was quite right in a birth date.

As for the rest, well, I wouldn't know enough about the myths to say so either way.
