more things i've learned about the city

new yorkers are unnaturally obsessed with and reliant upon two things: umbrellas and straws.

I saw at least a half dozen people walking around Northampton with umbrellas today.

I once asked my friend about Mt. Holyoke girls. She'd gone on a couple dates with some and only really had two things to say. One, they really liked squirrels. Two, they carried umbrellas when it snowed.

People in Boston do the umbrella thing too... I don't really get it either and i'm from CA.

I carry one when it snows in case the snow gets all wet and gloopy, and then you end up soaked, instead of the powdery kind that you can just brush off.

I always get a straw from the bodega when I get a can of something, cuz I don't want to drink where a roach may have curled up and taken a nap.

And I kinda like the brown bag around the coffee...you can fold it down on the sides and it acts like one of the carboard rings you get at Starbucks. Your hand doesn't get too hot. Also if you go into a store that doesn't let you have food inside, you can hide it.

Just speaking in defense of my peoples :)

i wish i had my umbrella with me on Friday!
it would have saved me from the detritus of snow
