Today is the 135th Kentucky Derby. I have conflicting emotions about horse racing and the Triple Crown. I like tradition, and the Derby is a part of my tradition. Until it's truly about the horses instead of money... yeah. I don't blame you at all.
As an aside, one of the first horses I had was a Quarter Horse who was a former race-horse.

It's personal. I breed horses. I see my babies at that age, and they are babies. I wouldn't dream of putting weight on them until they're four years old--and TBs are backed at 18 months.
I just can't sanction it even by watching one race a year. Not any more. No matter how beautiful they are. They're so much more beautiful when they're mature, sound, happy, and doing their job as properly trained and conditioned adults.
But then I'm one of those weirdos who see horses in those races instead of fully organic and self-reproducing dollar signs.
