I must confess, this concept of "Church" completely eludes me. I simply cannot see the tie-in that connects God and church. I mean the ten commandments state that the Lord's day must be kept holy, but who devised such "worship services?" I just don't get how church is keeping the Lord's day holy any more than private prayer is. I don't think ( Read more... )

You are correct in saying that there is no commandment or rule in the Bible that says one must attend church or worship service every week, but the idea worshiping and gathering in community did orginate in the Bible. What I'm thinking of particular is when Jesus said (this is a paraphrase) when two or more of you gather in my name I am present with you. After He was crusified his followers had to gather in secret because of the Roman persecution of Christians. At these secret meetings the early Christians would tell stories of Jesus and pass on his teachings and traditions. Gradually that evolved into an organized church that we know today ( ... )
