So, if you go to Old Town Alexandria and walk to the end of King Street, you'll reach the Potomac River. There are a few parks to the north, with a paved path along the water. The path eventually merges with the Mt. Vernon trail, a biking / running trail that extends from Theodore Roosevelt Island in the North to George Washington's Mt. Vernon ( Read more... )

It does sound like a nice scenic route. :) I need to find more of those here.

The whole eyes/mouth/face fountain thing is really cool! And yeah, I agree with your conclusion that it's vandalism. My guess? Canal Center?

Hmmm.. Cleveland used to have a buried treasure, but someone found it. There are like 9 left, though, if you wanted to hunt them down. (another link to some articles)

*note: the book is from the 70s, so it's completely possible that the other treasures are all but inaccessible right now.

Treasure hunts can be fun. :) If I ever visit one of the other places where the treasure's supposed to be, maybe I will look for it. Could be quite an adventure...

BTW, did you know that Stardust has been made into a movie and is coming out in August? I'm guessing you would know this, since you knew about Golden Compass, but I just heard about it today so figured I'd ask. (I have acquired The Amber Spyglass and am currently reading it).

Have I heard of the Stardust movie? Pshwa! Give me some credit.

Actually, Neil Gaiman approves of the transition from comic book / book -> film, and I've heard mostly good things, so I'll be there opening night.

i think what i enjoyed most about your description was the photo with the following caption: "The constantly running water has kinda stained the mouths." you are indeed correct, as the water-drool has succeeded in producing mouth orifices that mirror those of either infants or alzheimery elderly. i laughed at that picture.

Looks like the "Percent for art" program is at work there.
I love the pic with the waterfall rubble! I would want a crumbling ancient Greek statue site at *my* multimillion dollar complex.

I meant to show this to you when you were here, but I forgot and I think I turned your leg muscles into pulp with all of the walking I made you do.

Haha. Silly eccentric rich people with their rich buildings.
