Great movies are never quite as good the second time, but Brokeback Mountain is still my favorite movie. Ever. With a little sob time at the end ( Read more... )

Have you read the short story? I own it and it's tragically beautiful in the same way as the movie (which I also own). You are welcome to borrow either!

I must say I disagree: I believe Ennis has many regrets. He never had the life he wanted with Jack, and felt forced out of fear to live a false life, waiting for the summers when he could see Jack again. To me, that seems almost more tragic than Jack's death: the fact that he spent the vast majority of his life waiting instead of truly living, which he only did with Jack. At least, that was how I interpreted it.

Yeah, I read it at about the same time that I saw the movie. I didn't enjoy it mainly because I couldn't appreciate Annie Proulx's (if I'm remembering how to spell that correctly) writing style. Post-modernism and I really don't get along.

I totally agree that Ennis regretted the way that he loved Jack, but I think my thought process (oh those 3 years ago!) was that he never regretted meeting and falling in love with Jack. Bah, I might have to go watch this movie again over break and get back to you!
