Read the Dune series if you haven't. They're kind of a head trip, but really good. Start with the first book (Dune) and read the rest of the original series. If you find those too much but like the setting, you could read the prequels (House Atreides, House Harkonnen, and House Corrino). Those are like a light read compared to the original series.
I highly recommend Irene Radfords books. Guardian of the Balance is the first in the Merlin's Descendants series about King Arthur and Merlin's descendants. The stories are based on major historical events and she tried to keep as much fact in it as she could. Her other series is the Dragon Nimbus which is all about dragons and magic. Start with The Glass Dragon. Read the series chronologically from there and then go back and read the Star Gods series last as it gives away too much (its a prequel to the regular series).
