Snowbound

But you know, I'm not hating it. I was having a shitty week in which my recurring back injury recurred and I had to crawl around my house, so just being able to walk upright is a bit of a thrill, and I have power and heat and some food. Also, wandering around with a puppy in the snow is cute. Scout normally hops around like a deranged bunny, but ( Read more... )

Love the photos - I know everyone who lives in it finds it a bit of a huge inconvenience, all this higher than average snowfall but I have to say I'm hoping come 2011 Christmas it happens again when we're travelling the US, Canada and Alaska. I've had a total of two white christmases in my 35 years so far (one in Germany and one in Swedish Lappland) and I LOVE them. Rather odd considering I live in Australia and I much prefer the cold and snow. These pics make me wistful for those times. Scout looks like an interesting breed - is she a mix? Very appealing :)

Yeah, it's a pain to deal with this weather when you have to go to work, but not so bad on a Saturday when you knew it was coming (though we weren't supposed to get this much!) and don't have anywhere you need to be. For once, I enjoyed it! Hope you get to experience it on your travels :-)

Scout's a border collie mix. Hard to say what that "mix" is comprised of -- I adopted her from a shelter and she was picked up by Animal Control (which breaks my heart, thinking of her just wandering around alone), so I don't know any of her history or even her exact age. All of my pets (Scout plus two cats) are shelter adoptions and I got very lucky: they're gorgeous and sweet-natured and full of personality!

I love that puppygirl--she looks so enthusiastic but confused at the same time.

Otto is still annoyed the outside is white.

She was definitely trying to make the most of it...if it would just freeze a bit on top, then she could pull a Legolas and race over the surface without getting buried!

Poor Ottoman. He's going to be annoyed for days to come!

But did the Car-Washing Neighbor wash his car? These things are important!

I see Scout is having the time of her life! So sorry to hear your back was insubordinate.

I hear frequent applications of gin are helpful. :D

No, when snow hits, Michael switches over to driveway-shoveling. Which is kind of a full-time occupation when there's two feet of snow!

Scout loves snow, but doesn't see the point when it's deeper than she is tall -- does. not. compute :-)

The gin is a given, for sure! The back has been horrible, really the last thing I needed this week. Up until today, I've felt like a broken-down animal that needed to be put out of its misery...enough, already.

Wow. Fandom intersection with the Mormon in-laws=disconcerting! (I just hard-core pimped ROME to the BiL today. About the only thing he and I have in common is a love for the History Channel and Deadliest Catch. *L*)

Take care of yourself!

She is a love, very patient with my lack of mobility this week...definitely deserved her snow bunny time today!

Don't you always kinda wonder what animals actually think snow is? I mean, they know it's cold and wet, but when I watch the cats mowing a trail through the snow, or the neighborhood dogs running around biting it and frolicing, or being confused like you describe and wonder why they can't walk on it, I wish I could read their thoughts!

Ha, yes, I wonder so many things like that about animals! I remember how freaked out Scout was by falling leaves when I first adopted her (I got her late summer) -- she was totally skittish and weirded out by them. I don't know her exact age (Animal Control pick-up and vets disagreed about how old they believed her to be), but her response to the leaves that year made me think it HAD to be her first fall.

Man, I'd love to see cats in the snow! Mine wouldn't go near it, even if I let them.
