how the linneys came to be

It was in a small pub on the outskirts of Bristol that Rowan Wilder was working as a barmaid. University wasn’t cheap and with parents only managing to scrape by, working at the pub was Rowan’s only way to pay tuition. On a particularly dreary night, a young man came in to the bar and ordered a drink. Very dry, vodka martini straight up with three olives. His eyes were a stunning blue, his hair a dark wavy brown and his suit was nicer than anything Rowan owned in her closet. She served him his drink, barely able to meet his gaze. When she could avoid it no longer, something sparked. It was romantic comedy movie magic, or so Rowan joked. He did not leave the bar until she was forced to kick him out near dawn. He refused to leave, however, without a promise from Rowan that they could meet for dinner the next night.

That dinner turned in to another dinner, in which that dinner turned in to brunch and then a play and then a walk in the park and two years later an engagement ring. There was one little problem. Sebastian Linney, the man of Rowan’s dreams, had a little secret. Alright, it was a big secret. Sebastian Linney was a wizard. A real, pull a rabbit out of a hat wizard. However, when she asked him to perform the little trick, he was less then pleased. After convincing his wife-to-be that he was in fact a "real bleedin' wizard", things grew tense. Was rowan really ready for this? This blending of two cultures and identities? Or meeting the parents? (The very wealthy, close-minded parents, to be exact.)

Of course she wasn’t ready but she loved him. She forced herself to make it work. She forced herself to deal with his parents, even if they didn't think she was good enough for their son. Aafter a small, rather eccentric wedding on the outskirts of St. Tropez, she had become Mrs. Sebastian Linney. She found, to her relief, that she didn't really have to force herself to do any such thing for Sebastian. She loved him and she wanted to be apart of his life. Sometimes, she shakes her head for thinking she'd ever wanted to leave him.

Less than one year later, Marlow Lucille was born on the morning of April 14th. A quiet, rather happy child, she was incredibly easy to deal with. Two years later came Jonah Sebastian, an incredibly colicky and temperamental child. So they weren’t quite blessed, but all in all, they had become a very happy family. Although they had two little ones, their careers were also very important to them. After finishing her degree at the university, she went on to become one of the head writers for the BBC while Sebastian was doing incredibly well as an Auror at the Ministry of Magic. They settled in to a house in Ottery St. Catchpole and that's where they've been ever since.

Though their life was not without its troubles. As the Second War began to loom over the wizarding world, Rowan's status as Sebastian's wife came into question. Her non-magical-ness causing Sebastian concern on whether or not she would be targeted. He was staunchly anti-Voldemort and while his tenure at the Ministry kept him on the job, it was not without its troubles.

While his children were at school, no doubt dealing with their own worries, Sebastian had Rowan stay with an old friend, Nadalia Mendez-Summerby, hiding out in her network of safe houses until the War was finished.

It was certainly one of the most frightening moments the Linneys ever faced and it tormented Jonah and Marlow to know their mother was under such scrutiny. But thankfully, the safe house was impenetrable and they all managed out of the War with just a few scratches.
