Thank you! (I'd be with Sam as well -- Seth started out so geekily quirky and promising, but all too quickly became egocentric and smug, constantly ignoring Ryan's welfare, thoughts, and feelings in favor of his own agendas. The writers seemed to sell out substance in favor of more and more 'Seth one-liners', and all too often forgot to bring the heart.)

I do love this story, really I do....it's just that I don't whole heartedly love the Harts. I know you and I have had this convo before. Yes, Ryan spent a great deal of time with the Hart's during a very tough time in his life, and with Megan in the library before that....but he didn't live there for 4 years with them as his guardians. I feel about them much as I did in muchtvs Best of Intentions about Ed (was that the guys's name?) the Father-come-lately who thought he should have all rights to Ryan. Perhaps I'm over protective myself - against anyone who seeks to take Ryan away from the Cohens. And Seth as you have portrayed him here is so annoying that it's easy for anyone to hate him......

...but in canon, when canon was at its Cohen+1 best, they were a thing of beauty.

*sigh* And now I'm already longing for more of this tale!

You're right -- when Cohen+1 was at its best, it was a thing of beauty. Sadly, the writers didn't seem to see 'Cohen+1' as the heart of the show, selling out time and time again for cheap laughs and teen romance.

I know your struggle with the Harts, and appreciate your love of Cohen+1. I loved it, too -- it's just that I didn't see very much Cohen+1 after the first part of Season 1. Ryan parented himself most of season two and three (as well as parenting Seth) -- the Cohens were largely MIA. In season four Sandy woke up, and actually reverted to his earlier, better self. (OTOH, I'm convinced Kirsten had a labotomy at Suriak, and never recovered.)

Fanfic has been much kinder to Cohen+1, actually developing the relationships with far greater thought, insight, sensitivity, and heart than canon ever did.

You're absolutely right about the kindness fanfic has done re Cohen+1. And about Sandy and Kirsten in S4. I think I'm over-identifying with her in this story and that's why I can't trust the motivations of Megan. And maybe I'm a little bit worried about where you're headed? *she says with trepidation*
