The Case of the Franks -- No Thanks....

Feb 02, 2007 00:05

The Powers that Be seem to want to tie things up in pretty bows, rather than deal with their own canon, hard truths, or honest emotions.  So disappointing...

Making the final episodes about Reformation Frank and Lovestruck Julie?  Please!

Since getting out of prison, the guy has been all about deceit, betrayal, and illegal business dealings.  He'd ( Read more... )

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Yeah, I finally have the ability to ketchup and all I want to do is rant and rave. Here is my summation: emotionally, morally and historically bankrupt. What do you think? I even vented at TWoP where I will surely be attacked after being ignored. Here's a snippet starting with an excerpt from a comment from Chicster first and then chazper ( ... )

Oh, man. It's a good thing this episode didn't air last week. We might have been "asked to leave" the restaurant. Okay, I would have anyway!

I wasn't expecting a huge payoff, because consider that this is Josh. I saw J.J. and I cringed and screamed and wanted to cry. By the end, I had done all in repetition. I'm sure the 'hood could hear through my PAPER walls.

I want to go canon Frank Atwood on TPTB for having the disaster a week early and I want Ryan to go old school Ryan Atwood on Frank's ass AND hold him accountable since he already set boundaries outside of Casa Cohen- which T.T. and J.J. just plowed over with crappola. I want Frank to know that Sandy, not Frank, is Ryan's dad. Frank may be his biological father, but Ryan can't change that. This? A travesty.

Be glad I didn't call you and scream. Be very glad!

And look, I'm still ranting, so feel free to ignore. I really should go and reread "The Hart Break" so I can actually comment, but I wouldn't enjoy it or do it justice ( ... )

And of course Ryan couldn't have a flashback, because child abuse isn't the stuff fluff is made of.

It would have grounded the show in reality, giving some context to the characters' nature and history, so of course we couldn't have it. Even TPTB might find it difficult to promote Frank&Julie after showing a drunk Frank towering over and beating a frightened Ryan and/or Dawn.

TPTB had so many ways to go that would have been poignant, fascinating storytelling, but they opted for drivel that flew in the face of the most compelling backstory they'd ever crafted. It's not a matter of not liking it -- I LOATHE it! In all caps. With an exclamation point, and a huge *death glare*.

There have been obvious opportunities, shining ones and golden ones. This? This ranks as platinum and could have validated so much for the essential characters, relationships and dynamics. It could have been done tastefully, sensitively, but grippingly. I'm completely disgusted.

Wonder who JJ's writing for next? Remind me not to watch it!

Hee! And true.

Color me disgusted. I'm with you, for all the reasons that you stated. I hate the sudden rewrite for Ryan -- is nothing sacred with these people? Not even the central character of the show?
And they've ruined Taylor, who I loved. Assassination station -- everyone on board!

Where's Bullit with one his shotguns when we need him? Aimed directly at TPTB? Bang!

I've gotta agree with you on Frank. The only way they can "fix" this is if his "redemption" is just a con. But of course there isn't enough time to deal with the ramifications of that. I know TPTB want to tie everything up with a pretty bow but to make this guy suddenly Julie's perfect guy is just wrong.

And no Ryan flashback...I can think of two reasons they deleted it - either they didn't want to show a scared/abused little Ryan which would not look favorably on Frank or they didn't want to show a warm fuzzy Frank/little Ryan moment that would make Ryan realize that things weren't as bad as he thought thus earsing the canon history.

I hate to think that the only way this can be "fixed" is to show Frank as a bastard - there just isn't enought time to deal with all those issues. Too bad they couldn't have left it with Frank leaving Newport after his confrontation with Sandy.

BUT OMG! NOW FRANK AND JULIE 4 EVA!!!!!!

JRank??? FRulie?????

Why do you have to be such a hater??????

(Sigh)

They could have snuck in just a few things, 30 second scenes, each episode that would have given some transition to Frank and Ryan developing an adult relationship.

But they didn't....and that sucks....and reminds me why I love fanfic.
