Bible Reading

Sep 06, 2005 23:23

This is an open invitation, if you dont want to join me, thats cool. Starting this evening, I am doing a "Bible in one year" reading plan. Its not straight through, but actually goes chronological (so you read some of genesis, then job, then back to genesis, as well as jumping around in other areas ( Read more... )

I'm not going to partake of the reading (been there, done that), but I'd love to be the token atheist on the filter.

Well, for sufficiently flexible definitions of "love", that is.

Nope sorry, you cant read it, we dont care about you athesists. Just kidding. While there are some people I might consider have ulterior motives, I know that you dont.

Can I ask why you broke it up instead of reading straight thru? I've been attempting to read thru the Bible in a year, but haven't quite stayed on track. I'm in Judges now & might want to do this with you guys because it'll be nice to discuss some things with other people.

I was going to just read it straight through originally. When I went to try and find one of the reading plans for that, I came across the chronological plan. I thought it would be more interesting to read it in that manner, as well as put some things in better context. I don't know it will really make a difference in THIS case, but it might shed a different light on job when you realize that it took place before the events in the life of Moses. Sure, you can just KNOW thats the case by the time you get to the book of job, but actually reading it first just makes it easier. Again, I dont know if that specific example will really be a big deal, but I am sure some of them will, especially the Psalms, which if you look at the plan are mixed in with other books pretty throughly

I know you probably have no idea who I am, but I just wanted to say that it was really great of you to stick up for what you believe in towards all of those people.

A lot of people make crazy assumptions and never will admit when they are wrong, even if they have been proven so (There are several examples of that in the various threads you commented on over there).

Anyways, I just wanted to say good for you, and I am glad there are people like you out there.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Hello, I left a comment on the ONTD post but since there are so many there I'll just leave one here. I wanted to thank you for speaking up for Christians in a polite and coherent manner. I couldn't have taken on all those people and I was glad to see someone did. I also came in on the discussion a little late to add anything. I happen to agree with you, but if I didn't I would still think you were respectful and intelligent, so thanks.

like i said in that comment, thank you. I think I am done now, the only conversation that was still going on has pretty much died, I finally realized the guy was either incapable or unwilling to grasp the concept of why missionaries offered aide unconditionally.

I have spent probably a good 2-3 hours answering comments, I replied to pretty much everyone left directly too me (about 60+ total) and I'm just tired now. On top of it all, I have to work tomorrow.

hope you dont mind if i friend you.

i've spent about that long leaving replies to "flame wars" as well. if you say one thing they don't agree with- you're inbox will be filled with horrible amounts of mail. but hey- if they can say their comments, i can say mine right? (i happen to think mine are better anyways...haha but who doesn't?) ;)

have a good day! :)
