The Mirror

Queued and
    cued;
standing in crisscrossing lines, everyone

waits

, singing the songs of chit-chatty small talk
copy-written by grocery and department stores;
staring, glassy-eyed, at the faces and figures
of bleached and fallen gods;

and all that looks back
is the anorexic and adulterous you.

Thank you. :) It means a lot that it could be meaningless yet still worthwhile.

It's kind of inspired by the last paragraph of "White Noise." Basically it's just the idea of standing in lines at checkouts, looking at celebrity gossip, and how those mag covers are kind of a mirror reflecting our own issues. We create them, they in turn create us. Or vice versa. After a while, it doesn't really matter.
