HERE Masterpost Come time for English, Jack was running late. He arrived to the class a full four minutes after the bell rang. His locker had jammed, and he'd practically run to the last class of the day.
He slipped through the door then, meeting Alex's eyes instantly upon arrival and barking a laugh at the fake glare the teacher shot him.
"Mr. Barakat, you're late again," Alex informed, biting his bottom lip and leaning against his desk. The class was already started on passing in the homework of the day.
"Mhm," Jack agreed, stopping in front of the class, back to the class and he grinned wide so only Alex could see.
Alex tried not to offer him the same sized expression, fighting it back by biting his bottom lip.
"Take your seat, Jack. I'll talk to you after class."
Jack snickered a little, doing as he was told and taking his seat next to Kyle, whom had obviously witnessed the whole thing.
Jack glanced over at the blonde, instantly dropping the smirk that he had, to adopt a blank expression.
Kyle quirked a perfectly kept eyebrow at him, pulling on a bit of a smirk of his own. There was no way he was getting away from that class without being badgered.
The little looks and glances didn't stop all the way through class with Alex. Every time the teacher said anything that could even be taken in a slightly sexual way, he'd make eye contact with Jack for a split second, just long enough for Jack to laugh under his breath and think about the previous night.
When he'd woke up that morning, he almost didn't want to stir and wake Alex with him; the man looked so peaceful and untouched. Before he could think of what he was doing, Jack had leaned in and softly pecked the teacher's temple. When he hadn't stirred, Jack did it again, placing a kiss this time on the top of the man's cheek.
Alex had been facing away from him, Jack being the spoon and Alex being the spoon-ee. It was warm for January with Jack's arms wrapped around him in that basement, and Jack couldn't really think of a time that he'd felt closer to someone.
With all resistance aside, just in that moment alone, Jack felt something he hadn't before. Something warm and all consuming, but it didn't last long. Only a second of it, and Jack was pushing it out, throwing it away in the nearest trash bin, because he wasn't like that. He was Jack Barakat. Maybe he cared about Alex, but that was absolutely as far as he'd let that go.
"So, class," Alex said, breaking through Jack's thoughts and causing him to look up at the teacher. "Do you guys understand the material?"
There was a girl that raised her hand and asked a question, but Jack wasn't paying attention to that. He was staring at Alex's hand as he perched himself on the front desk. The way his long, skinny fingers wrapped around the edge of the wood and the knuckles turned a little white. It was cold enough outside that nearly everyone's skin was chapped and red, so the white color against the rest of his skin was a nice contrast.
He was back to wearing dress shirts again, Jack noted, and he hadn't spotted a bruise on him - or any wound for that matter. Jack smiled at that, knowing that if he was even in class, Alex hadn't been caught. But back to dress shirts.
The formal wear looked so good on him, even if it was a little more than the rest of the teachers wore. The white button-down, sleeves that snapped together at the wrist and then a skinny, deep purple tie to pull it together. A+ in Jack's book. And then there was that hat. That beanie that Alex always wore over his caramel hair, almost always grey in color. Jack liked it. It had become Alex's signature look.
"Okay guys," he said again and met Jack's eyes. "There's only a minute left of class. You can go." He dismissed them and most of the kids left, save for Jack who had to stay and "talk" with Alex about being late.
As soon as all the kids were shuffled out of the class, Jack stood, giving Alex a little smirk that was returned instantly.
"Why were you late?" Alex asked, standing from where he was perched on his desk.
"My locker jammed," Jack answered, grabbing his things from the table. "I didn't think you'd really care."
"I don't," Alex admitted, reaching a hand out to pick a piece of lint off of Jack's shirt, leaving his fingers there on Jack's shoulder a little longer than necessary. "But I wanted to see you again."
Jack paused, keeping Alex's dark eyes. "I'm right here."
Alex was just about to lean in when Jack turned his head abruptly to see Kyle standing at the door way, arms crossed over his chest and a smug - yet curious - look on his features.
Jack's jaw dropped a little as he and Alex simultaneously moved back from each other.
Kyle laughed smugly. "I suspected," he said, turning and prancing out the door.
Jack's wide eyes met Alex's even wider ones. Jack gestured that he was leaving, mouth opening and closing like he didn't know what to say. Alex just nodded with a breathy laugh.
Jack followed the boy, trying to move as fast as he could without sprinting, but he didn't have to go far. Kyle was leaning against the way just outside the door, a grin on his lips.
Jack stopped in front of him, alert and ready to be yelled at by the -much smaller - blonde.
But he didn't yell, he just gave Jack a, strangely genuine, smile. "Jack," he said quietly, or what sounded quiet in comparison to the loud halls.
Jack waited for him to continue, hanging his head a little when the blonde didn't.
"What do you think you're doing?" Kyle asked, cocking a brow and Jack glanced up at him through his skunk fringe. He was hoping that looking innocent was working for him.
"I don't know," he answered and the blonde rolled his eyes.
"I think we should talk," he stated. "Mind having me over for dinner?"
Jack shook his head, he didn't really want to talk, but Kyle had more information than he should so Jack answered, "No, I don't mind."
