When Jack woke up the next morning, he knew it was going to be a good day. The smell of pancakes was in the air and he even had time to watch early morning cartoons before he went to school, rocking out to a mix tape in his car on the way.

Rian greeted him by his locker the first thing, talking to him heatedly about something Mark Hoppus had said the other day and Jack had to grin because, yeah, everything was going perfect. Until Zack showed up.

Zack had never said anything rude to him in his life and today was no exception. He simply said a sweet "hello" and kept walking by, onto his own locker a few rows down. Nothing about the boy was wrong. Nothing and Jack hated that.

Nothing about Zack had ever bothered him before, honestly but now that he knew Zack's little secret, everything was different. Even the way he stood was different, a little crumpled by his locker, leaning against the metal with his forearm and before, that was totally normal to Jack. But now, that seemed to be the gayest way one could possibly stand.

"Oh god, Ri," Jack muttered, turning to his best friend with a scrunched up face as he clutched his black binder even harder to his chest.

"What?" Rian asked, quirking an eyebrow and Jack gave him a bit of a disgusted look.

"All I see when I look at him now, is the damn color pink. Fucking pink!" he exclaimed, throwing his hands down in a dramatic gesture.

Rian laughed at him. "You're being ridiculous; he's pretty damn masculine, Jack. Plus, haven't you fucked guys before?"

"Well, yeah, but I didn't sit around and stroke their hair in the morning; it was for the sex."

"Like I said, you're being crazy."

"I know. What's wrong with me?" Jack asked but Rian didn't even hear him, he was already grinning with that look on his face that Jack knew could only lead to something interesting.

"Dude, I know what you need," Rian barked, reaching forward and slapping Jack's arm. "Let's skip a few classes and see a movie."

"That's what you have to offer?" Jack asked with a disappointed look and he was going to finish with some smart ass comment but he was interrupted by the shrill, loud screaming of the bell.

"If you'd rather sit through your classes-"

"Let's go."

Skipping school was easy, all they had to do was walk out the front door. Getting Rian's car to start was not easy, and Jack sighed as Rian tried it again. To no avail.

With a huff, Jack got out of the car and walked around to the front, pulling the hood open and bending over to work inside. He looked the engine over quickly before reaching in and digging through the mess of wires and tubes.

"Hey, what movie do you wanna see; I can look up times on my phone while you figure shit out," Rian offered.

"Uh, something scary, I think. You got money for lunch?" he asked as his fingers worked to twist a screw tighter into one part of the engine.

"Yeah," Rian answered and Jack tells him to try the engine again, but like before, it makes a pained screeching noise and Jack lets out a little huff.

"Can I help?"

Jack looks up to answer Rian with a, "you don't know shit about mechanics"when he notices that that wasn't Rian's voice at all. He whips his head around to peer up at the man, eye brow quirking a bit because he's not wearing his regular dress shirt and suit, he's dressed in a tight, aqua blue v-neck and a pair of, equally as tight, black skinny jeans. The back part of his shaggy, brown hair was covered by a black beanie so only the bangs and sides were shown.

"You look like you're having some trouble," Alex added and Jack stood, raising to about the teachers height, a few inches taller and crossing his arms over his chest.

"Am I supposed to believe that you're going to help us skip class?" Jack asked skeptically and Alex rolled his eyes with a little, half smile.

"It's not like I wasn't a kid once, Mr. Barakat," the teacher explained, leaning over into the hood and simply adjusting a tube that connected to the engine. "Try it again."

Jack gave Rian the okay through the windshield and, sure enough, the engine roared to life. Rian Jumped out of the car a second later with a look of delight on his face. He extended a hand forward that Alex took to shake.

"Thanks man, do you go here?"

"No," Jack interrupted with a blank look, seemingly unconvinced by Alex's skills. "This is my loser English teacher, Mr. Gaskarth."

"Wow," Rian said, raising his eyebrows in consideration. "Aren't you a little young to be a teacher?"

"If I had a dime," Alex said with a little laugh, turning to head off to the front doors of the school, but not before turning his head to the side quickly. "Oh, and you'd better be back for my class, Mr. Barakat."

--

"Okay, so do you wanna see the vampire one of the one about zombies?" Rian asked, looking up at the movie board and turning to Jack a bit.

"Zombie one, I feel like it'll be scarier," Jack answered, pulling out his phone to check his messages as Rian bought tickets for the show. One new message from Zack and Jack rolled his eyes.

Saw you this morning, where'd you go?

He gave up on texting back and stuffed the phone deep into his pocket, Rian tugging him toward the concessions. They got a bucket of popcorn and a couple of soda like always and headed off to the very top of the theatre seats where they couldn't be seen.

"Hopefully this'll take my mind off Zack for a while," Jack said as the beginning credits played through.

"Why, bro; what's wrong with him?" Rian asked, rolling his eyes as Jack shook his head.

"Nothing," Jack admitted and shut up for a while.

--

"Hurry up, Ri," Jack pushed and rolled his eyes again. "As terrible as this is, I have to get back to school."

"What?! Are you shitting me?" Rian panned and swallowed back the rest of his burger before crumpling up the paper and tossing it into the trash can next to them. Jack wasn't sure why Rian insisted upon sitting in the seat next to the trash bin but he did, every time. And it smelled like rotting food and sweat. Then again, so did the entire Burger-Mania that they ate at.

"I have to be back for English, Ri; if I don't turn in yesterday's homework, Alex is going to be mad," Jack answered and reached to rub the back of his neck in nervousness. When he finally looked up again, Rian was giving a skeptical look.

"You just think he's hot," Rian scoffed and chugged down the rest of his soda.

Jack huffed and rolled his eyes. "No, I actually wanna pass this time," he clarified and Rian quirked an eyebrow because he knew that wasn't the only reason.

"And he's pretty damn hot," Jack added with another eye roll. "But he's nothing special."
