Oscar Films for 2016: The Hollywood Reporter Brutally Honest Reviews

Feb 25, 2016 22:30

Last year, The Hollywood Reporter posted nine exit polls, so to speak, from nine members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts, and Sciences on what and whom they voted for and why. This year, the exit polls are back and the members are just as onery and frank as last year. However, I have to say that this year, the ones that I have read so far ( Read more... )

A member of the Academy's 216-person members-at-large branch, which is reserved for people who have held "a key creative position for which the Academy has no branch."

And that's why I'm all for restructuring the Academy especially for the members-at-large voting body. This voter was likely in a production gig when she (I'm going with "she" as well for what she liked about Mad Max) garnered her invite to the Academy so I think she likes things that are more visual and she definitely picked a smashing film (I would've even loved it even if Tom Hardy wasn't in it) But I bet the other 215 in that voting body are people who are the ones who look down on movies like "Brooklyn" or last year's "Wild". Movies that are substantial. But I think the voters are large think a Best Picture has to be splashy to be worthy. "Room" is just lucky to be this year's "A Boy's Life".

Hey member, Woman's Films are what made the movies in their beginning.

I can't imagine Bette Davis *just* playing someone's wife like Marissa Tomei did in "The Big Short". A character who only existed to prop the male up. A male who isn't even hot like Ryan Gosling.

Bette Davis was President of the Academy in 1941. And that is how important a "female" actor was in those days. And she made "Women's Films". And she named Oscar the Statute. Male actors like George Brent and Leslie Howard had careers because they propped HER up. Hmmm, might be something to this "Good Old Days" thing.

Cheryl Boone Isaacs is the current and second woman to hold the presidency of the Academy.

she definitely picked a smashing film

SMASHING! Heheh!
