Today I attended a workshop on vintage styling (hair, make-up, clothing from the 30s, 40s and 50s), and though it wasn’t as in-depth on some topics as I’d hoped, it was still a fun few hours… Also, as a direct result, I am now sporting rather impressive victory rolls… And well, since I’m not going anywhere this evening to show my glamorous retro-do ( Read more... )

Well holy crap, don't you just look cute as hell!

Where was this workshop held out of curiosity? I'd love to go to such a thing!

Why thank you! ♥

The workshop was run by two ladies from Melbourne, and this was the first time they’d run it in Sydney… no idea how soon they’ll be coming up this way again, but they have a myspace if you want more details: The Lindy Charm School for Girls

They do look fantastic and yes I'd also be curious to know the details of the workshop!

PS. Are you on the vintage hair community? I'm sure they'd like to see your photos :)

There’s a vintage hair community? No, actually, thinking about it, there’s probably more than one knowing lj *teehee*… What’s it called?

I don't really understand how myspace works but I'll get cut_paste to check it out for me.

And it was at vintage_hair but I've just checked my userinfo now and it has a line through it. I'm sure it was there in the last few days so hopefully it's just a temporary thing. I'll let you know when it comes back.

omg, its a girl gig you went to.. well, I've now decided I dont like em *grumpy shrugs*

Joking, they looked fucking awesome!!

Btw, you seen that new girlpower thing going around Newtown?
Its some convention to stop sexism against females, with a severely outdated pin-up 60's cartoon chick flexing her mucsles, and the IRONY of it - exactly that, "Severely outdated 60's" - some fucks just need a good shooting.

I have half a mind to rip them all down, then phone the person involved, sound all Pro-women-equality and arrive, then give a speach on how fucking lame and wrong they all are.
I just fucking HATE feminists.

*laughs* Thanks! :) It was girls only, but then I suspect not too many guys would be wanting to learn how to do pin curls and victory rolls on themselves - though it would be an interesting experiment to see if they’d allow a guy to attend a class if he asked to… I for one would certainly be having words with them if they refused…

Haven’t seen the girlpower posters, but shall keep an eye out :)

And erm… I consider myself to be a feminist… not in that annoying radical “hate all men / female superiority” sense - as that is, of course, a stand-point taken largely by closed-minded bitter morons trying to pretend they’re intellectuals who stand for something meaningful… idiots… I’m more of the equality mindset - as in anything one gender can do, the other should be equally entitled to - abolishing legal and social double standards (and acknowledging the negative as well as the positive ramifications of true equality)…

thats not feminism, thats normality.

Considering yourself to be part of a gender-specific culture that screams equality is 50 years out of date.

In a personal sense, if a guy (not society) thinks you cant lift the 50k its going to take to move something, it would make sense, as that is physiology, not sexism.

People often confuse the two.

Absolutely… And I really wish it was normality for everyone :)

There are definitely still some gaps in equality between the sexes though - certainly not as profoundly so as in the past when feminism first came to prominance, but it’s still there… And equality between genders isn’t confined to women - we both know of at least one legal instance where there needs to be work done on giving men the same power as women… Perhaps I’m more of an equalitist than feminist… :P

Alas, there are still philistines out there who insist on keeping their thinking in the last century and unfortunately some of them are in a position of power where they can lobby to keep the status quo where there should really be progress, or even to try and move progress backwards…

Differences in physical limitations between genders is an entirely different subject and agreed, certainly nothing to do with sexism… *laughs* Though that said, if a man were to say no woman can lift 50kg simply because they’re female, that would be sexism… Whereas if he says a particular ( ... )
