Instant Coffee

Every day, I am reminded just how wretchedly spoiled I was (and probably still am) as an American.

Just this Tuesday, I was sipping my hot instant coffee and mused how prior to moving overseas, I would have balked at anything other than fresh-brewed.  Then I praised myself for not being so picky, for having grown as a person.

That's an easy one, given the circumstances. I take for granted that having a job means "stability", but also that I have the skills, the motivation and the family support (both friends and blood) to have this layoff at my company NOT be the end of my world. I take it for granted that I'm not panicking about getting a job before the end of March while others around me are freaking out.

Outside the work front, I also take it for granted that I know how to cook and have the means with which to make delicious meals -- a fully stocked pantry, a well-stocked fridge and the money with which to buy whatever I don't already have as far as food's concerned.

We felt a lot of that while we were in Mexico, but then, like good Americans, promptly forgot about it, complained there was nothing for dinner, and went out for dinner. :/
