I am totally hooked on the trivia on a site I just discovered, mentalfloss.com. I'm sure there's lots of great stuff on the site--whose slogan, "Where knowledge junkies go to get their fix", totally appeals to me--but I haven't gotten past these "Fact of the Day"s. The article about eleven overlooks the fact that other Germanic languages have similar words. German has "elf" and "zwölf". This indicates, at least, that "eleven" and "twelve" are not of specifically Old English origin.

And about "idren": It's usually "bridren" or "bredren" which comes from "brethren".
