Best Forgotten, Part 23

Jan 30, 2011 18:40

Well, this is closer to the end of the story, but not by nearly as much as I expected. Most of this update I wrote the first week of January when I was still on break. Since then . . . well, life has gotten demanding on several fronts. (I won't bore you with all that here.) But this weekend I realized that it's the end of the month already, so I ( Read more... )

Great chapter but once again, you figured out a way to prolong the suspense! Damn you (and I mean that with all the love in the world)!

Shh, don't tell, but "Figured out a way to prolong the suspense" actually means "doesn't know how to finish this story effectively". I'm working on it though. Oh--and I accept the "damn you" with thanks, considering the sentiment that followed.

You get top grade for timeliness and more cruel and unusual punishment among other things ( ... )

You read more carefully than I write, beach! The first "Kirsten" wasn't planned, just a mistake due to my bad habit of writing in pieces and not proofreading. Thank you for noting it. I have to go and correct that! But I am happy that you liked the flashback. It was a last-minute addition to give Ryan more presence in the story and, frankly, because I always wished the show had addressed how/when "Mrs. Cohen" became Kirsten.

Now . . . on to Santa Clara (assuming none of those nasty natural disasters you mentioned!)

At least we have forward motion. And somewhat positive news. I only hope the next chapter finds them at the clinic.

I only hope the next chapter finds them at the clinic.

Oh it will, unless Sandy starts driving in reverse, or Caleb finds a way to move the clinic to Brazil. And in this bizarre story, you never know!

How are you doing weather-wise and with snow days?

We're closed today due to ice--just our second snow day this year (but our state cut our emergency days from five to three, so we're near the don't-have-to-make-them-up limit already.) Yesterday, when we got 6+ inches of snow overnight and winds gusting to 40 mph, we were the only district around open. Ironically it was the first day of work for our interim superintendent (the last one "retired" to apply for a college presidency) and we think the guy was gun-shy about closing as his first official move. I left home at 6:30, barely made it out of my unplowed driveway, made my normal 30 minute commute in an hour and fifteen minutes and arrived at school to find our parking lot uncleared and over 50% of our faculty and about 70% of our kids absent.

Such fun--a completely wasted day. But I know we're doing better than a lot of people. Like you. I know you've been hit hard. How are you coping?

as before, was aware of the date and waiting for your posting
the 2 way conversation and moving action worked very well, most tense
liked the flashback also, especially liked Sandy talking to Ryan, keeping the faith

I'm so, so relieved that the 2 way conversation worked, fred, and pleased that you liked Sandy talking to Ryan. That part just slipped in somehow.

As always, the fact that you're still reading and responding makes me very happy.
