Ups and Downs
Well, first off, I'd like to say I had a lovely birthday last Sunday, and thanks so much to everyone who sent birthday wishes, greetings, cards, recs(!), and pr0n. Thank you!!!

When I went out to run an errand at lunch today, the "check engine" light came on. Uh-oh... So, I drove carefully back to the office, and *very* carefully back home after work, but everything else seemed to be all right - the pickup was a trifle sluggish, perhaps, but...not so bad.
We had to run out to the store in the evening, and on the way home, there was a sudden loud *POP!*, a burst of coolant-scented water, and a cloud of steam. The car made a very unhappy noise, and the engine temp indicator went over into the red.
Oh, dear.
Fortunately, we were only about five blocks from home, so I turned on the heater (to pull heat from the engine, in theory) and we drove very slowly and carefully home. The poor baby wasn't very happy about the last two hills, but she made it up and gasped to a halt in front of the house. *pats poor valiant little car*
So, it's a call to AAA and a trip via tow-truck to the garage in the morning for us. I'm hoping it's just a blown hose and nothing more drastic or expensive.
