Lay and Kai have been taking the same dance class for a couple of months now. They have even gone out for drinks after a few times but Lay has never been able to get Kai home. The timing is always wrong or there is no convenient way to bring it up.
Still the feeling is there, that this could be more, that Lay wants it to be more. Sometimes he is distracted by the smooth and powerful way that Kai’s muscles move, the way his skin feels as they go through the stretches or how street clothes show off other parts of Kai’s form.
There is a little spark of attraction that Lay tries his best to fan without blowing it out entirely.
Today the mood is good. Holidays are almost here, finals are over and one day after class Kai is wiping his sweat away as Lay picks up his bag. A sketch book falls out and Kai picks it up. He flips through and the awe on his face grows with each passing page.
“Did you draw all these?” Kai asks while still flipping. Page after page of figures dancing and posing holds his attention and Lay looks on in amusement.
“Nah, I stole it,” he lies and moves behind Kai to look over his shoulder. Kai looks up and sees Lay’s wry grin.
“No really! These are all awesome,” Kai gushes. “Do you get people to model or do you draw from memory?” Kai turns the notebook so that the drawing is up the right way. It’s a full length sketch of two dancers. One has their legs wrapped around the other while they both lean back and reach up.
“Er, some are from memory, some are real life and some use photographs as a reference.” Lay is getting nervous because now he remembers that there are some nudes in the back of that particular notebook and he isn’t sure how Kai will react. He reaches out a hand to take back the book but he is too late, Kai is already there.
“Oh,” Kai breathes and his eyes go wide. Sketch after sketch of every type of form flies past under Kai’s fingers. Reclining buxom beauties, muscular males, waifs and soft youths are all there in nothing but their skin or a strategically draped cloth. Vague suggestion and piercing detail; It’s all there and Kai is compelled to look at each one.
“I take a life drawing class too.” Lay drops his hand back to his side and hopes that the explanation is enough.
“You are really good.” The open admiration on Kai’s face makes Lay blush.
“Thank you,” Lay says in a rush, “I really love to draw and I’m experimenting with charcoal and some other stuff but it’s too messy to carry around.” He rubs his hands nervously on his pants. Kai hands back the notebook and their fingers touch. Lay’s mouth goes dry and it’s Kai’s turn to blush. Lay feels the need to say something to fill the awkward silence. He figures it’s now or never. There may never be a better opportunity.
“I could draw you if you like?” Lay hopes the proposition doesn’t sound too creepy. Honestly, the sketches in the book are all very tasteful. There is nothing even the slightest bit racy, let alone pornographic.
“You would want to draw me?” Kai looks genuinely flattered.
“Yeah sure,” Lay sighs, relieved, “dancers’ bodies make great subjects. What are you doing tomorrow?”
“I’m busy all day tomorrow,” Kai huffs, disappointed and Lay’s hopes fall flat, “but I’m free all day today?” Kai makes it a question and Lay feels his mood lift right back up again.
“I have nothing on for the rest of the day.” Lay briefly wonders if his smile is too big but he finds it difficult to care.
“Okay, lead the way.” Kai smiles right back.

“So how does this normally work?” Kai is getting a bit nervous. He had been told before that he was good looking enough to be a model but he has assumed it was just flattery to get into his pants. The drawings in Lay’s notebook were beautiful and he had a feeling that not all the models had been what everyone would call gorgeous. The beauty was in the lines and the shadows Lay lovingly put down on the page. Kai had wanted to feel that someone looked at him like that as soon as he had seen the sketches but now it came down to it, he felt self-conscious and exposed.
“Just sit comfortably. Pick a pose you can hold for a while. I don’t want you to get tired, this is meant to be fun, right?” Lay gives a nervous giggle quickly stifled and sits opposite Kai with a large sketchpad. He makes a show of checking his pencil while Kai composes himself.
“Something comfortable…” Kai mutters and suddenly the body that always moves in exactly the way he wants, fails to comply with even a simple request for crossed legs. Eventually he settles for a simple and elegant recline.
Lay looks up and Kai is stretched out in front of him. He looks like perfection, all the way from his crossed ankles to his tousled hair. Lay nervously scribbles on the side of the page to wear down the too sharp point of his pencil before starting.
“So just stay still. I’ll let you see when I’m done.” Lay pushes down the nerves and begins. He starts with a quick impression of the pose. Lay captures the lazy feeling of Kai’s posture before trying a few different styles.
Lay starts a blind contour sketch. He moves the tip of his pencil over the page while tracing the exact same point on the figure. In this case it’s Kai; Kai’s hair, his cheekbones, his plump lips, down his jaw to where his collarbones dip beneath his shirt. Lay clears his throat when he realises he is staring and not drawing and Kai flicks his gaze up to meet Lay’s eyes.
Lay swallows nervously, feeling pinned down by Kai’s stare. His eyes go a bit wide as Kai reaches down to pull off his shirt. It falls to the ground and Kai resumes posing with a confidence he doesn’t feel.
The atmosphere is increasingly charged with each moment. Kai can almost feel Lay’s eyes on him and it starts to get hot. He wonders what Lay is thinking and if he’s gone too far.
Lay struggles to concentrate, wrenching his attention from one sculpted piece of torso to another, heroically completing an entire sketch worthy of showing his model.
“I-I think I’m done.” Lay tries not to stammer as he turns the drawing for Kai to see. He doesn’t trust his hands not to shake so he doesn’t hold it out. Kai looks over and what he sees makes his jaw drop.
“This is me?” He is stunned and sits down hard next to Lay. It’s classical beauty on the page and he can’t believe that anyone sees him like that. The smooth lines and depth of expression lift off the page. There is something about the emotion in the eyes and the set of the lips that makes Kai feel… something he can’t place.
“That’s how you look.” Lay’s open expression holds no pretence and Kai melts.
“But this is beautiful,” Kai sighs still looking at the sketches in front of him and Lay blinks. He hadn’t imagined that someone that looks like Kai would ever be unaware of exactly how perfect they were.
“You are.” Lay reaches out to touch Kai’s cheek and Kai looks up in time to see Lay moving closer. He tips his chin up at the last moment to join their lips in a kiss. Kai moves his hands up to clutch at Lay’s shirt and the sketch pad slides forgotten to the ground.
They start out slow, shy and cautious, but soon Kai is pushing Lay’s shirt up so that their skin can touch. After the first move, things advance quickly until there is not a stitch between them.
Their legs lock and they move together as they kiss. Kai leans back breathless and Lay licks and sucks his way down defined pectorals, over clenching abdominals to Kai’s aching need. Lay is a straightforward lover so he takes Kai in hand and into his mouth without teasing.
“Ah Lay!” Kai cries out as Lay’s tongue glides deliciously over the sensitive tip. Kai perversely wonders if there is anything that Lay is not good at before being dragged down into pleasure by gentle hands tracing over his thighs.
Lay feels Kai’s fingers scrabbling at his shoulders and he glances up to see what the matter is.
“Let me…” Kai gasps out and Lay is confused as to what he means until Kai pulls him onto the couch and takes him in hand. Lay's legs bracket Kai's head as he continues to use his tongue in long sensual licks. Kai pumps his hand up and down slowly until Lay’s head falls forward. An experimental lick jolts Lay back to the present and they both fall back into the task of working his mouth back and forth along the other.
Vibrations from their muffled moans create a pleasurable feedback loop that culminates in Kai cumming first. He pulls Lay close and runs his flat palms sensually up and down his back while Lay sucks him down. Lay soon follows, digging his fingers into Kai’s buttocks and resting his cheek on his thigh. Kai holds Lay's hips up as he tries to thrust deeper and deeper into his mouth.
Lay almost slides off the couch when he tries to turn the right way up. He wants to kiss Kai's lips again and feel his hot skin as he makes the boy shudder with pleasure.
The rest is a hazy mess of tangled limbs and post orgasmic make out until sometime later, Kai jolts awake and cracks an eyelid.
He’s still on Lay’s couch but now he looks around to see the floor is covered with sketch after sketch of his nude body lying on the couch.
He blushes, wrapping the blanket around him as he picks his way across the room. He avoids stepping on the paper and he finds Lay in the kitchen making tea.
“Hey,” Kai smiles as he leans against the door frame. Lay looks up and returns the smile with a grin of his own. Kai considers the dimple that pops up on Lay’s cheek ‘change’ and wonders how much a Lay smile is worth these days. It must be quite a bit because he feels like a million dollars.
“Hey yourself,” Lay replies, “do you want tea?” Kai nods and Lay pours him a cup before holding it out.
Kai wraps his hands around the hot mug and blows on it. Lay leans against the bench and sips his own tea.
“I saw what you were up to while I was sleeping,” Kai indicates the other room with his head and Lay smiles again.
“Yeah,” Lay chuckles “it was a bit of a squeeze on the couch but I couldn’t leave you so I drew.” He blushes and looks away.
“You just wanted to stare at my ass,” Kai challenges and Lay snorts into his tea.
“Mmm. For that accusation, I have no good defence.” Lay looks happy to be caught out. Kai takes a sip of his tea now that it has cooled a bit only to let out a barking laugh. Lay is confused so Kai explains.
“The tea is awful!” Kai laughs but it only makes Lay more confused. Kai moves over to put the mug on the bench and wrap Lay in a warm blanket hug “I was beginning to think you were good at everything. Now I’m glad you are real.” Kai brushes their noses together and Lay blinks and blushes again. No one had ever been more happy to have someone tell them they were rubbish at something than Lay was right then.
