I love your Calcifer icon! (IFC is playing Ghibli movies for the next two weeks! I'm so excited and sharing that info with everyone I think might be interested!)

Thank you for reading!

Now that was scary. You did a great job of building the tension. Really enjoyed your writing!

Thank you! I am glad the tension building was successful. I didn't want to spend TOO much time on the ~normal, boring, everyday life stuff, but I did want to spend just enough so that the turn of events caught the reader slightly off guard. :)

Wow. For real. I think Mr. King would be proud. That was such a good mix of everyday banality and concerns and then total creepiness at the end. Excellently done!

This is such a huge compliment so thank you very very much! I've always enjoyed how King set most of his stories in very boring, ordinary towns (usually in Maine lol). The contrast of creepy against a normal setting is very successfully unnerving. Thank you again for such a kind comment (and for making me add 'have Stephen King read one of my short stories" to my bucket list.)

You're welcome! I've actually only started reading King in the last few years - I tried Cujo when I was about 12 and got so scared I put him down and didn't come back. I think that's one thing he excels at, and what you really hit here, is that contrast of banal everydayness versus OH SHIT CREEPY. I mean, when you're reading about a haunted house or a psychopath/serial killer, it can lose a lot of the impact because *everything* is so creepy, and that contrast is what makes it sort of delicious.

Seriously, send that to Stephen King.... or get it published somewhere that he'll read it ;)
