I see the world in patterns, metaphors, and parallels, and yet somehow I miss almost all of the most obvious connections. How is this possible? Do the different sides of our brains connect the dots in different ways? I need a psych major on this one.

My new favorite artist is James Lavadour. He works in oil on wood panel and manages to produce this slightly blurred, hyper-real effect. The way he reproduces natural outdoor light is uncanny. He's Native American, does a lot of southwestern scenes and forest fires. It's breathtaking stuff. Go look.

To the powers that be: I am grateful that my deepest frustration in life at this moment is that I can't wear my ipod in the shower.

Or I could use melted wax, not plastic. It would be lighter and easier to work with. Probably cheaper too. I'll need a sander to thin the edges of the cuts. Finding a way to translate the cross-sectional measurements in two dimensions is going to be the hardest part. I need a lightweight, transparent, inflexible surface and a way to apply a translucent, iridescent sheen to both sides of it. I need masking tape. I need a thin, quick-drying adhesive. Jeeze Louise. I just noticed that the main picture on the homepage of Gonzaga's website is of a bunch of white kids giving the thumbs up sign. How in God's name did they get them to do that? oh wait...

I am now officially the worst employee ever. Someone ordered a stawberries and cream frappucino, and I accidently called it to the bar as a "crapuccino," right in front of the customer. It was a total accident, having to do with the way the drink is abbreviated on the register screen, (STBCRF, if I remember correctly) but still. I ought to be fired ( Read more... )
