Genre: Angst?, Fluff?
Summary: Hyunseung ALWAYS waits for Junhyung.
“Bye, Seung!”
“We’re going first.”
“Don’t take too long, okay?”
“See you later, hyung!”
Hyunseung nodded blankly. They were recording a new song. As usual, the other boys except the rapper were already done with their parts. As usual, the other boys except Hyunseung went over to the café near the studio to grab a latte. As usual, he would wait for Junhyung.
Junhyung’s voice could be heard from time to time while Hyunseung sat comfortably on the couch at the back of the recording room, staring at his phone. He already finished all the games installed on the device a long time ago. Looking around, he realized there was not a thing in that room to keep him entertained at the moment. He also definitely did not want to sleep. Damn, he was bored.
Hyunseung’s gaze fell on the man behind the glass to the recording booth. As masterfully stringed set of words came out of Junhyung’s mouth and reached his ears, a question Hyunseung buried at the back of his head for so long suddenly seemed to resurrect.
Will he wait for me, too?
Hah, Hyunseung laughed at himself. But he was never late. Ever. He looked at Junhyung again, then at the space between them. Another question popped up: But if I am late, will he wait?
“Hey, babe. Let’s go.” Hyunseung looked up to Junhyung’s smiling face he was a little surprised to find.
“Oh. Yeah.” He smiled back, but frowned a little deeper inside. It was definitely not easy to bury things in your mind.
Hyunseung was playing with Junhyung’s phone when he heard the click of the bathroom door.
“Ten minutes!” Junhyung said in a rush while drying his hair with a towel. Hyunseung nodded, and that was the rapper’s signal before dashing to their bedroom.
The other boys were already in their car with their manager. It was five past six in the morning, and they have a schedule at eight. But by Junhyung’s pace, it seemed they have to rush the noonas at the salon again.
Hyunseung was about to finish the game on Junhyung’s phone when it suddenly rang. Doojoon was calling.
“Yah, Jang Hyunseung! Get Junhyung’s ass right here right now or I swear you both will never see each other again!”
“Yah, Yoon Doojoon! I was about to finish my game, and if I don’t finish this right now I swear you won’t ever play football again!”
“What??” Doojoon asked, confusion mixed in his voice. Hyunseung could hear the others laughing at his remark. Obviously he was on speakerphone.
Then Yoseob said, “Hyunseungie, can you hurry up? I’m hungry.” Then Kikwang, “Me too!” And Dongwoon, “I’m sleepy.”
Hyunseung sighed and said, “Five minutes.” Then he hang up.
And he waited. Hyunseung waited while forcing back a question from the grave in his head. After fifteen minutes, Junhyung grabbed his hand, and they ran their way towards their car and away from the question he avoided for so long.
Hyunseung sipped his iced tea and stared at the floating ice cubes. He poked each with the straw, watched the cubes disappear at the bottom of the glass, and smiled as they appear again seconds after. He suddenly thought of learning diving.
“Okay. I’m totally bored.”
All of them just finished grocery shopping and decided to stop by a nearby café. They ordered their favourites and was about to go back to their car when one of them, someone called Yong Junhyung, remembered that he forgot to buy his weekly pack of coke. After all the groans of protest to stay, several “what the hells,” and a light push from Doojoon, the rapper announced that they could just go home and cook dinner first. Then he looked at Hyunseung, smiled his lopsided smirk, and said, “And you can wait for me here.” Haha, Hyunseung laughed inside. Of course.
So after five minutes after they all left, Hyunseung had nothing to do but be amused by his drink’s diving ice cubes.
He leaned back on his seat, got his phone out and stared at his wallpaper. He couldn’t help but smile whenever he looks at Junhyung’s wacky face on his phone. Sometimes he just wants to try to punch this guy in the face then wait for his precious reaction. Just thinking about it made Hyunseung giggle a little.
His small fit was interrupted when a cold something made contact with the back of his neck. His shoulders automatically went up, and turning around, he came face to face with his favourite ice cream.
“This ice cream told me that it loves you when you wait for me.” The person holding the dessert said.
“I love you, too.” Hyunseung smilingly said to the ice cream before grabbing it in one hand. Junhyung’s smile was bigger when he grabbed the rapper’s hand with his free one. Hyunseung seemed to be getting used to waiting by the day.
“Fuck.”
Hyunseung was getting on the last bus ride back to their dorm. Taking the seat near the door so he could get off fast, he got his phone out. It was still dead. His nerves suddenly seemed to mock him when he realized he had never been this nervous before.
Because he was late. For the first time ever.
He was supposed to be back at the dorm by eight in the evening, and all of them would go together to their company’s anniversary party. Hyunseung easily agreed to this since he was just going to pick his sister up, give his late birthday present, then have a short early dinner. That would take about two hours, plus one hour travel time, so he left the dorm at half past four in the afternoon.
But how could Hyunseung underestimate the convincing powers of his dongsaeng? Guilt-tripping seemed to be his sister’s new hobby as she reiterated how he didn’t even see her on her birthday two days ago. And no reason appeared to work. Saying she wanted to spend quality time with her oppa, his sister magically turned the simple dinner into a trip to the amusement park where they had their dinner. She also insisted that Hyunseung take her home. He tried to argue but to no avail, of course. To add to that, they had another dinner at home, a little more catching up chat, and a lot more time Hyunseung was not really supposed to kill.
He ended up making his way back to the dorm more than four hours late with a dead phone, a very full stomach, and an ultimately nervous self. He just hoped everyone had gone to the party so that he could peacefully rest without confrontations, or if there were any the day after, these would just be a little milder.
But then there was Junhyung. Hyunseung bit his lower lip in deep thought. Junhyung loves parties and nothing could stop that guy from going to one, especially if all the guests would be people he was acquainted with. Of course Junhyung would go to their company’s party. Of course Junhyung would have no reason to spoil all the fun. Of course Junhyung would not even spare a second thought to wait for him of course. Waiting is only for Hyunseung.
He slumped a little on the bus seat. Looking out the window, Hyunseung smiled sadly to himself. Well, he had to admit there was a part on the back of his head hoping that Junhyung would somehow wait for him, or even to the extent of staying. But four hours is four hours. If he were in Junhyung’s place, would he wait for him? Hah. This time Hyunseung really laughed. Because he would.
As the bus nears his stop, Hyunseung faced regret. He regretted putting two tight schedules in one day. He regretted having to comply with everything his sister asked for. He regretted hoping that someone would wait for him too, that Junhyung would wait for him too.
Why does he always wait for Junhyung? Hyunseung looked at his translucent reflection on the bus window. Maybe because he just loved the thought of knowing that someone is willing to stay behind for him. And maybe, just maybe, he loved it too much he forgot it was only a thought, a haunting wish he ironically kept hidden for long. Hyunseung was not even surprised when the reflection looked at him with grieving eyes.
Too preoccupied, Hyunseung almost missed his stop. He ran all the way off the bus to their dorm. But no, he was not hoping Junhyung or anyone is home anymore. He just wanted to go home, lie on his bed, and rest the tiring day away.
Okay. He just does not want to hope..
Fine. He is still hoping..
A little.
Hyunseung reached the main lobby of their dorm’s building and was surprised at what he was seeing: all of Beast in their pajamas and sleepy selves. Except for one.
Dongwoon saw him first. “Hyung!” The boy ran towards him and hugged him tight. The others then joined by throwing themselves into the hug.
“Yah! I can’t breathe! But what are you guys doing here?” Hyunseung managed to say.
“We were worried ‘cause we can’t reach you, and you didn’t even contact us!” Yoseob said with a pout.
“Where have you been anyway? I thought you’ll just treat your sister?” Doojoon asked.
“Yeah. Junhyung was worried sick,” added Kikwang.
Hyunseung smiled sadly. “But he wasn’t even here. I bet he’s already enjoying the party.” He tried not to hide the sadness in his voice.
“Well,” Doojoon started, “I guess he went to another party.” Then he laughed.
“I told him he didn’t have to go to the station!” Kikwang said.
Hyunseung was about to ask what was going on when two police officers entered the building just then, and with them, wearing Hyunseung’s star pajamas and favorite hoodie, was Junhyung. His hair was a little messed up, and his face was filled with stress.
When Hyunseung’s and Junhyung’s eyes met, everyone was silent. And then Hyunseung finally pieced everything altogether. A smile formed on his lips, which turned into a bigger one, which turned into a small laugh, and into a loud and hearty uncontrollable laugh.
There were tears in his eyes when he went near a frowning Junhyung. Hyunseung still cannot stop his laughter when Junhyung finally let out a loud, “YAH!!!”
A/N: Waaaaa. I’m sorry this turned into crack or something of that type. Just had to let this out. Haha. Junseung is <3
