It was one of those nights when both of them could not sleep.
One grabbed a coke before slumping down on their living room couch, next to the other. Silence. Only the ticking of the wall clock could be heard, sometimes the rhythm of their breaths. The first one on the couch wondered why their couch was facing the window. The one with the coke just stared at the moon.
“Why are you drinking my coke?” asked the logical one.
“Why are you sitting on my spot?” answered the curious one.
The sound of soft laughter filled the room for a while. The first one to ask grabbed a pillow and hugged it, eyes now on the only source of light in the room. The moon seemed to be mocking him, it was perched up in the star-filled sky in its perfect, bright, and glorious phase, while there he was, lazed down on an old couch, coke-deprived, and talking to the weirdest person he has ever met.
“Do you like the moon?” the weird person suddenly asked, interrupting the other’s reverie.
The one hugging the pillow looked at the person beside him then back at the moon. “Sometimes? I don’t know. Is it something you have to like or not like? It’s there. It lights up the night. I guess that’s enough.”
“The one who asked sipped on his coke. “Well, I like her. And I call her Luna.”
“You gave the moon a name?”
“Yeah. She’s beautiful.”
“If I’m gonna give it a gender, I think it would be a ‘He.’”
“What? You’re weird.”
“Hah! Now I’m the weird one.”
The door to the bedroom then opened revealing a sleepy dark-haired boy. With a soft “Guys, can you keep it down?” and another inaudible sentence, the boy disappeared as fast as he came.
Then suddenly, the one holding a can screamed “Woohoohoo!” at the top of his lungs, earning a “Hyung!” from someone inside their bedroom and a what-the-hell look from the person beside him. He softly laughed before having another sip on his coke.
Again, there was silence. Again, both of them were staring at the moon. Again, both could hear each other’s breaths, both aware of each other’s presence.
And again, it was the curious one who would break the silence.
“Why did you tell me you love me?”
The one who was supposed to answer was slightly taken aback. He recovered with a “Why?”
“Some people would keep it to themselves and just wait until the person they love realizes it.”
“Well, when you love someone,” the logical one answered, “there would come a time that you won’t be able to hide it anymore, no matter how much you wanted to keep it to yourself. Life would give you that chance, that one tiny opportunity and it’s your choice, if you take it or leave it.”*
“And you decided to take it?”
“Yeah.”
“Then why are you avoiding me after saying you love me?”
The logical one cleared his throat. “Because I’m afraid.”
“You’re afraid of me?”
“I’m afraid of these feelings. I can’t think straight anymore. I don’t know what to do. I can’t control what I feel.”
“Don’t you think avoiding me is a sign of cowardice? Are you a coward, Jun?”
“Yes.”
The curious one looked at the person beside him who was still avoiding his gaze. He grabbed the other’s chin and made him look into his eyes.
“Well, I think I have enough courage stocked in me. Maybe it would be enough for the two of us.”
Confusion filled the eyes of the logical one. “What are you talking about?”
“I’m saying I love you. And that I don’t care how much of a coward you become. I’m taking the risk for both of us.”
“Wha-“
“So avoiding me will just be tiresome for you since I plan to stick with you whenever.”
“You can’t do that.”
“I can,” the curious one smiled before closing the distance between them, “I’m weird, remember?”
A/N: I don’t know what this is, okay.
