CHARACTER NAME: Samantha Hilary Miles
POSITION: Intern for the Acquisitions Department
DATE OF BIRTH, AGE: 23 years old (November 29th)
SHORT PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Attractive but not gorgeous, Samantha dresses better than any other intern at Vance Corporation and possibly better than any other female in the company. She often looks as though she has come right off the pages of a fashion magazine and has a bright and charming smile always at the ready. Samantha is expressive and has flashing eyes that can draw men in. She is not as thin as she'd like to be but couldn't even be called 'fleshy.' Samantha's hair is not very nice since she regularly dyes, perms, and straightens it.
PLAYED BY: Anne Hathaway

PERSONALITY: Samantha is already known as the optimist in her department after only a year. Some of her friends will call her to complain only because they find it amusing to listen to her pause before she bursts out with the positive spin on things. "My boyfriend dumped me" is answered with "Oh there's this really wonderful guy I wanted you to see --" or "He had the most disgusting toenails! Think about what your babies would have looked like." She isn't given a lot of responsibility in the office and tends to be answering the phones a lot and dealing with various interdepartmental issues and is rather incredible with it.

Because of Samantha's desire to give everything a positive spin she might be seen as someone who cannot take things seriously and is flippant. Quite the contrary, Samantha is a determined individual who's favorite motto is: "LET'S MAKE IT WORK!" And, instead of just being a bright shinning cheerleader, she actually does what she can to bring everything to a positive end.

Quite the chatterbox, Samantha loves her electronic communicator and is prone to responding to people with emoti-cons. She knows that she is seen as a 'soft' person in the dog-eat-dog world of Vance Corporation but doesn't really want to change who she is. She's just an intern and she isn't sure that she wants to stay with Vance. As long as she can leave her Internship with a Positive Review, she knows that life will be swell!

Although Samantha is a positive person she is also incredibly materialistic. From a very rich family, Samantha expects to only become richer as she gets older. She tends to have lots of flings with rich men and has absolutely no problem accepting ridiculously expensive gifts. She also has been rumored to have flings with married men. Samantha will just toss her hair when approached with those rumors and wink and said, "I'd be lucky if I was, wouldn't I? I wouldn't need to worry about them trying to tie me down."

Samantha, while not the most gorgeous person in the world, does place a lot of worth on physical attractiveness. She is careful to make sure that she looks very well groomed and lovely, and also will initially respect people more if they are wearing the right brands or look more attractive than others in a group. Samantha refuses to hang out with 'ugly' or 'old' people and loves to surrounded herself with pretty things and people. Those who are more unfortunate looking may very well assume that Samantha is snickering about them behind their back -- though she will generally end her burn-session by saying, "Oh, if she just CURLED her hair she wouldn't look nearly as hideous!" Because, in the end, Samantha believes that everything that is broken can be fixed.

HISTORY: The only child of Helen and Jon Miles, Samantha was also the only one who was there to deal with all of the custody battles when her parents divorced when she was six. Jon had been seeing another woman and Helen was fed up with it. Custody would have quickly gone to Helen but Samantha had been manipulated by her father to make her mother's love of a nightcap sound like full blown alcoholism in the court. Not exactly knowing what was going on, Samantha was taken from her mother and began to live with Jon full-time, except for every other weekend and half her holidays.

The woman that caused the divorce of Samantha's parents didn't last long. She was only the first in a string of women that danced in and out of Samantha's life. She learned a lot from them -- how to tell how much a jewel was really worth, how to apply makeup, how to be charming, how to pour drinks right, how to bake cookies -- and a million other life lessons. While the incessant string of new women in her life did cause trust issues in Samantha's life, she also garnered a rather diverse understanding of what it meant to be a woman. The women, wanting to keep Mr. Miles happy, were doting to Samantha and often took her out with them to expensive shops. Samantha was trained to never take anything less than the best.

She began dating when she was only eleven and had lost her virginity by the time she was thirteen. Sex and dating were something that she didn't get incredibly emotional over. After having seen her father dump woman after woman Samantha became the 'dumper' and almost always got rid of the boys and men she was with before they could hurt her. There were a few times when Samantha was unable to dump first and those times left her broken and shaken, but she would jump back into the dating came with a ferocity and would attack the heart of the next man who came into her life.

Determined to make a success of herself and not be weak (as she viewed her mother), Samantha went into business school. In college she dated several very powerful men in the business world and made lots of connections. These connections helped her apply for the position of an intern with Vance Corporation right out of college. Samantha originally applied for the Intern for Marketing but the slot was given to Tristan Knight and she was offered a position in Acquisitions. Samantha took it, a bit surprised that she was being given that role, but has been working hard to perfect her abilities in the position as she is certain that her charming personality, optimism and determination will make her way more successful than any of her female role models.
