someone's not being paid the big bucks

Mr. Charm is out of town, so tomorrow the kids and I are going to visit my parents for Father's Day. We are going to take him out to dinner Friday night and come back Saturday, to take Mr. Charm and his dad to a Texas Ranger game. Yes, it was Little King's idea. He's such a baseball fanatic.

Interesting that JKR is only giving two interviews, both to US media outlets (Today and Time). TLC said she hasn't spoken to the British press for two years. Anyone know what gives?

We are in the 20's kids! The 20's!!!!

I finished The Chocolate War today. Yes, I read it in a day, but it's a short, Youth Lit book. If I can't read that in a few hours I should be ashamed. Just a quick poll:

Poll

I'd never heard of this book before I saw it on the banned book list when I was researching one to read for my book club. It was published for the first time in 1975 in England, then in 1978 in the US. In 2004, it was the most challenged book. It is just astounding to me that it has been challenged, and been on the most challenged list since at least 1990. The reasons for it being challenged are sexual content, offensive language, religious viewpoint, being unsuited to age group and violence. The sexual content is mild to say the least. I can't think of one curse word that is in the book. It is set in a Catholic school but there is no overt anti-religious sentiment in it. The only thing that is legitimate is the violence, but it isn't glorified at all. As far as it being unsuited to an age group, I would say it's for 12 and above. My big complaint with the book was how it ended. Good didn't triumph over evil, unfortunately. But, life is like that sometime, isn't it?

Would I recommend the book? Yes, if only to see for yourself the type of book that is being challenged these days.
