I just asked someone who's work I greatly admire, whom I've never met  and who doesn't even work at Cornell to act as my mentor on my research project for the next two years. Slightly awkward? yes. Fruitful? I hope to God that the answer is yes.

that brought me from a very unhappy mood to being unable to suppress my smile:

• My bus came after I had been waiting at the bus stop for only 2 minutes .(1/2 happy points)
• Someone with really great cologne sat within smelling distance of me on the bus. (8 happy points)
