Icon Tutorial #3

I was planning on making a tutorial about this icon, and (as requested also) here it is! I experimented a few hours to get this result, so bare with me here :D

I use Photoshop CS2 (i don't know if this is translatable, but i'm assuming it is) I don't have PSD files.

1) Get your base. As you can see mine didn't fit in the 100x100 canvas, SO i grabbed the smudge tool and got rid of the gray area.

2) Next, Duplicate layer and set mode to Screen. (40 %) This step is optional if your base is bright enough.

3) Add this texture (which i modified to a yellow coloring with Hue/Saturation and rotated the canvas 180°. Original here) and place it over your base. Set mode to Multiply. (70 %)

4) Go back to your base and go to image > adjustments > curves (or Ctrl+M) :
RGB: Input: 96, Output: 141
Blue: Input: 82, Output: 107
(This is optional but it does add more color to the yellow image)

5) Go back to your TOP layer and go to layer > new adjustments layer > selective color...
Reds: -40, 0, +10, 0
Yellows: -100, +5, -49, 0

6) Go to layer > new fill layer > solid color... pick a dark blue color like #041c33. Set mode to Linear light, Opacity 32 %.

7) Go to layer > new adjustments layer > channel mixer...
Red: 100, +26, -32
Green: 0, +100, 0
Blue: -18, +18, +100

Constant: +12

8) Add a Selective Color layer:
Reds: -22, 0, +26
Neutrals: +14, -8, +4

9) Go to layer > new adjustments layer > photo filter...
USE : Filter: Cooling Filter (LBB)
Density: 25 %

Make sure that the preserve luminosity box is checked.

10) Go to layer > new adjustments layer > color balance...
Midtones: +19, +10, -33
Shadows: +12, 0, -17
Highlights: -15, 0, +5

11) Add a new Curves layer :
RGB: Input: 111, Output: 134
Red: Input: 114, Output: 120
Green: Input: 135, Output: 132
Blue: Input: 112, Output: 111

12) Add a new Fill layer. Pick another dark blue color #481b00. Set mode to Exclusion, Opacity 40 %.

13) Add a Color Balance layer :
Highlights: -12, -10, +12

14) Add another Color Balance layer :
Midtones: 0, 0, -12
Shadows: -30, -23, 0
Highlights: +15, +15, 0

Set mode to Screen, Opacity 20 %.

15) Duplicate the Color Balance layer from step#14 and change mode to Normal, Opacity 70 %.

And then i added a text texture by
sanami276, set to screen, and added that below :)

The End,
Hope this is helpful! I'd love to see your results :D
