"I am a princess"

Not sure exactly how I feel about this commercial. One one hand it's brilliant advertising that answers a very specific, targeted criticism. On the other our modern vernacular refers to calling someone a princess as a bad thing. And I'm not sure Disney, who has a major financial stake in the game, is the appropriate venue to "reclaim" the word. ( Read more... )

meh. I've never been really against the whole Disney franchise but the whole "princess" idea has always made me squicky.

I played I was a Princess plenty of times as a child but I am not okay with parents telling their little girls they are a princess. And that has nothing to do with Disney.

To me, the ad doesn't do it. I don't even really get it. A princess believes in all those great things? No. A Princess means privilege and standing apart, not "standing together" or whatever they were talking about.
