Books for needy children

My friend Maria is in New Orleans, volunteering with house gutting, tutoring, and several days a week she staffs a temporary library in one of the temporary YMCA elementary schools in one of the hardest-hit sections of New Orleans. do you think we could donate used books? I have, i am not kidding, 3 6ft wide floor to ceiling books for children, but now that Zane is 8 and graduated to chapter books, most of them are outgrown. We had been discussing whether to donate them to the library here, but most of them are already in the library in town.
