It's more like he was part of a group that helped to define a generation that really didn't have very many ~impressive~ idols to begin with. He was a "jackass," but he and everyone else on that show kind of helped to prove that a bunch of people doing stupid shit can get famous for it if they do enough of it.
Not the best role model, but between them and, say, anyone on Jersey Shore...
A family member of mine posted on FB about it. When I found out how he died, the first word that came to mind was 'good'. Terrible, and I am sure I will be in spiritual trouble for it. But I do not feel bad about it.
I'm annoyed Robert Ebert got slammed for making a similar (and totally valid) statement on Twitter. It's not like mocking flood victims in Japan or anything, yeesh.
