By now most of the vampire clans had heard about the Cullen’s and all the events surrounding Bella and the Volturi. Most knew to stay away from Forks, but every once and awhile a clan would try something. More often than not they were sent running to the hills. Not all good things, however, last forever.
A new group of newborns wanted to stake their claim as a threat, and what better way to do that than to take out the biggest clan that was known. Getting to Bella, however, would be difficult. They decided to watch the Cullen’s and see what their weakness was. They found that weakness in Jacob Black. Whenever Jacob wasn’t spending time with Jasper he was spending it in the woods behind his house. Perfect.
Being newborns they easily overpowered Jacob and took him to their hideout. They were pleasantly surprised to find out that he was a werewolf. They spent most of their time breaking his bones only to let him heal and do it all over again the next day.
They were expecting to get a message any day now that the Cullen’s would leave. They weren’t expecting Jasper to find his mate in the middle of their ‘sessions’. Jasper had torn three of them apart before the rest of the Cullen’s arrived to wipe out the rest of them. Carlisle looked Jacob over and thankfully the newborns were letting the bones set in their proper place. Alice then told them that more newborns were around than first thought. Jasper took Jacob in his arms just as Jacob was waking up.
“This make you Prince Charming?”
“Only if it means you get to be the princess.”
“Jerk.”
“Your jerk princess;” Jasper said, kissing Jacob before heading off toward home. Hopefully they would slip by un-noticed, but Jasper highly doubted that.

Jacob’s body felt like it was on fire. He hurt. This was nothing like he had felt before. He let out a small whimper of pain and Jasper stopped dead in his tracks. He carefully laid Jacob down and checked him over.
“Are you hurt?”
“Bones are starting to set.”
“Ok. We’ll wait here until they are set.”
Neither one of them heard the newborns that had followed them until one of them tackled Jasper and separated the two of them. One of the newborns had their arms around Jasper and squeezed, causing him to scream in pain. Jacob knew that if the newborn tried again Jasper would be torn to pieces. He couldn’t allow that to happen.
Despite the pain he was in, and it was a lot of pain, Jacob stood up. It would be pure pain, but Jacob knew he had to phase to save Jasper. When he was captured the newborns found it so wonderful that he was a werewolf. When he was in wolf form tearing them apart, it wasn’t so wonderful.
Jasper managed to get to his feet and burn the bodies before collapsing again. Jacob carefully nudged Jasper with his nose, whining softly until Jasper got up. Jacob lowered himself enough so that Jasper could climb on and ride the rest of the way back to the Cullen home.
When they got back Carlisle and the rest had arrived. Jacob was so relieved that he phased before they stopped, sending Jasper to the ground. Jasper gave Jacob a half hearted glare as the other ran towards them. Jacob tried to look innocent.
“Hey I ran all the way here with broken bones and a passenger. I deserve a break.”
“We’ll talk about this later.”
Despite everything that had happened, Jacob laughed. So maybe it was worth taking a dive in the dirt.

They were back in the woods. They were always in the woods. Why couldn’t it be a different one? He remembered the dull throbbing set deep in his bones. He couldn’t get up. He had to get up, but he couldn’t. It hurt too much. Something had gone wrong when his bones set. They set wrong, so wrong that he was just as useful as the rocks on the ground. All he could was watch as the newborns advanced on Jasper, trying to shout out warnings but they are never enough. Nothing was even enough to stop the newborns from tearing Jasper’s body limb from limb and burning it.
Jacob jerked awake, his breath coming out in harsh pants. The image of the fire consuming Jasper’s body was seared into his mind. Before he could say anything Jasper was by his side.
“Another dream?”
All Jacob could do was nod. He didn’t want to say the words. If he said the words it might happen. Something might happen to take the one person he loved the most away from him. He started to shake at the pent up emotions that coursed through his body.
Jasper slid back under the covers and pulled the trembling werewolf into his arms.
“I’m right here Jacob. Nothing happened to me. I’m alright my little wolf.”
Jacob curled closer to Jasper, wanting as little space between their bodies as possible. Jasper started to softly sing a song his mother used as a bedtime song. It made Jacob relax almost immediately. Jasper had an amazing voice, and only his boyfriend got to enjoy it.
“I couldn’t help you. My bones healed wrong and I couldn’t get up. I watched as you…”
Jaspers lips found their way to his cutting off the rest of his words.
“No matter what happens…I will always come for you. I don’t care what happens to me in the process. You are so worth it.”
Something cold wrapped around his finger. Jacob looked down and saw that Jasper had slipped a silver band on his finger.
