Jacob needed to go home. He needed to be with Jasper. Why had he told Jasper not to come with him? The tribe knew about them. No one would do anything at his father’s funeral. He needed to be strong today. He had to be for his sisters. Rachel and Rebecca needed him. He could do this.

He couldn’t. As soon as his father was in the ground he took off. He made it about half way into the woods before the pain in his heart just became too much for him to bear. He let out a scream of anguish before he fell on his knees. He felt a pair of ice cold arms wrap around him.

“I’ve got you love.”

“I…I found him. I went downstairs to tell him we were getting married. He…he was on the floor.”

Jacob broke down into a fit of sobs. Jasper wrapped his arms tighter around Jacob. His poor love had lost both of his parents and he wasn’t even an adult yet. Jasper did everything he could to calm Jacob down. He used his gift and he sung to him. It seemed to take forever until Jacob was calm enough to speak again.

“How…how did you know I needed you?”

“Did you really think I would be that far away when you need me? I just…had a feeling.”

“You mean you had Bella’s new husband read my mind.”

“Well…maybe just a little.”

It wasn’t a full smile from Jacob, but even a tiny smile counted as a win to Jasper. He kissed Jacob on the forehead. Jacob spoke so low that even Jasper had a hard time hearing him.

“Thank you.”

“I will always be here for you…silly pup.”

Jacob pulled out the ring he had been carrying around in his pocket since he had received it. He slipped it on his finger.

“Your silly pup.”
